Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,737 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 532 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 30 at Glasgow Prestwick Airport, EGPK. The aircraft, Sirius, accelerated down the runway, covering a distance of 202 meters, which accounted for 7% of the runway's length. The liftoff speed was achieved at 59 knots, marking the start of the flight.
As the aircraft entered the local airspace, it encountered a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 270 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The pilot navigated the aircraft into a left-hand pattern entry from runway 30, completing the maneuver in less than 1 nautical mile in 20 seconds.
The left-hand pattern crosswind was also executed, with the aircraft covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 24 seconds. The pilot then initiated a pattern downwind turn, which involved a distance of 1 nautical mile and an angle of 120.9 degrees to the runway. The downwind leg itself covered a distance of 2 nautical miles in 68 seconds.
As the aircraft approached the base leg, the pilot executed a turn, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile and an angle of 8.0 degrees to the runway. The final approach was made to runway 30 from the south-east, with the aircraft heading 301.0 degrees at an altitude of 28.8 meters above ground level.
The landing was executed with a threshold speed that was slightly above the target speed of 58 knots. The touchdown point was 147 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 41 knots and a perfect touchdown rate of -0.1 meters per second. The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect.
The total landing distance covered was 843 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The total flight distance was 4 nautical miles, which was completed in 4 minutes, and the aircraft used -4 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, identified as Sirius, successfully landed at EGPK Glasgow Prestwick Airport on runway 30. The final approach was initiated from the south east, heading 301.0° at an altitude of 28.8 meters above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, ultimately touching down on the runway at a speed of 41 knots.
The touchdown point was located 147 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal landing spot. However, the touchdown speed was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate was perfect at -0.1 meters per second. The runway touchdown alignment was also spot on, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots from a direction of 268°. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 4 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing. The aircraft's ability to handle these conditions was evident in its smooth and controlled descent.
The total landing distance was 843 meters, which is approximately 31% of the runway's length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop in a relatively short period of time. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase of the landing.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with a score of 95.4%. The aircraft's performance was impressive, with a good touchdown speed, perfect touchdown rate, and excellent runway alignment. The favorable weather conditions also contributed to the smooth and controlled nature of the landing.
