Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,227 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 371 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 16 at Cork Airport (EICK) in Ireland. The takeoff distance was 1,205 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 15 knots at 170 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 15 knots. The enroute climb began overhead Ballygarvan in Munster, Ireland, where the aircraft ascended from 1,413 feet above sea level to 38,866 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,452 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 147 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 2 miles south east of Pendine in Carmarthenshire, Wales, and lasted for 87 minutes, covering a distance of 609 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 2 miles north west of Flims in Kanton Graubunden, Switzerland, where it descended from 38,697 feet above sea level to 1,351 feet above sea level, a decrease of 37,346 feet in 31 minutes, covering a distance of 140 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 07 at Treviso Antonio Canova Airport (LIPH) in Italy was made from the south west, heading 69.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,287 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 07 was successful, with a runway length of 2,227 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 141 knots. The touchdown distance was 373 meters, and the touchdown speed was 136 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -271 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots at 40 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 5 knots. The total landing distance was 1,140 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took approximately 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 903 nautical miles, which was covered in 149 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,616 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Treviso Antonio Canova Airport, with a final approach score of 99.3%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the southwest, heading 69.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,287 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise landing on runway 07, which is 2,227 meters long.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct height as it approached the runway threshold. The threshold speed of 141 knots was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's control over the aircraft's descent. The touchdown distance of 373 meters was also good, indicating that the pilot had successfully controlled the aircraft's rate of descent.
The touchdown speed of 136 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -271 feet per minute (fpm) was fair. However, the touchdown rate could be improved to achieve a more optimal landing. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 40°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots. These conditions did not pose a significant challenge to the pilot, and the aircraft was able to land safely.
The total landing distance of 1,140 meters was 51% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This indicates that the pilot had successfully controlled the aircraft's rate of descent and had executed a precise landing. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control over the aircraft's descent and touchdown. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown rate to achieve a more optimal landing.
