Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,376 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 691 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a P180, then departed from runway 15 at Ciampino–G. B. Pastine International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 895 meters, which was 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 124 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 18°C and a wind speed of 4 knots at 210°. The crosswind was 4 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots. After departing from Ciampino, the enroute climb started 1 mile south of the airport, with the aircraft climbing from an altitude of 448 meters above sea level to 7,289 meters above sea level, an increase of 6,840.4 meters, in 15 minutes and covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise then began 1 mile south of Torvaianica, lasting 23 minutes and covering a distance of 114 nautical miles. Following the cruise, the enroute descent started 1 mile northwest of Montecassiano, with the aircraft descending from 7,323 meters above sea level to 144 meters above sea level, a decrease of 7,178.7 meters, in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 53 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 13 at Federico Fellini International Airport was made from the northwest, with the aircraft heading 127.0° at 1 nautical mile and 129.3 meters above ground level. The landing was made on runway 13, which had a length of 2,376 meters. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 126 knots.
The touchdown point was 271 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 112 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was fair at -1.3 meters per second. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 7 knots at 200°, with a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,377 meters, which was 58% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 187 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 65 minutes and a fuel consumption of 367 kilograms.
The aircraft, identified as FFX P180 03 01, successfully landed at LIPR Federico Fellini International Airport on runway 13. The final approach was initiated from the north-west, with a heading of 127.0° at an altitude of 129.3 meters above ground level (agl) and 1 nautical mile from the runway. The aircraft's performance during the landing was satisfactory, with a touchdown speed of 112 knots, which was within the acceptable range.
However, there were some minor deviations from the target parameters. The threshold height at 20.0 meters agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than expected when reaching the runway threshold. Additionally, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 126 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was slightly faster than intended when reaching the runway threshold.
The touchdown point was 271 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively significant deviation. Nevertheless, the touchdown speed and rate were within acceptable limits, with a touchdown speed of 112 knots and a touchdown rate of -1.3 meters per second, which was fair. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 200°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,377 meters, which is 58% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with some minor deviations from the target parameters. However, the aircraft's performance during the landing was generally good, and the pilot's skills were demonstrated through the successful execution of the landing.
