Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,878 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,878 m of the 2,740 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 575 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Harbin Taiping International Airport, the Boeing 777-300 began its journey with a taxiing period of six minutes, covering a distance of two nautical miles. As it rolled down runway 23, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 169 knots, achieving a takeoff distance of 1,615 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 4°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots at 250°, resulting in a 6-knot crosswind and an 11-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed to its initial cruising altitude, it traversed a distance of 122 nautical miles in 17 minutes, ascending from 1,495 feet above sea level to 31,822 feet. The enroute climb phase was punctuated by several altitude adjustments, including a descent from 31,826 feet to 31,282 feet, followed by a climb from 31,516 feet to 32,894 feet. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 154 minutes and covered a distance of 1,371 nautical miles. This was followed by another climb phase, which saw the aircraft ascend from 35,279 feet to 37,061 feet, before entering a prolonged level cruise phase that lasted for 259 minutes and covered a distance of 2,289 nautical miles.
As the aircraft began its descent into Daniel K Inouye International Airport, it traversed a distance of 133 nautical miles in 20 minutes, descending from 37,850 feet to 4,063 feet. The final approach to runway 04R was executed from the southwest, with the aircraft touching down 160 meters beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 138 knots. The total landing distance was 1,799 meters, accounting for 66% of the runway length. Following a taxiing period of four minutes, the aircraft came to a stop at the parking area, having completed a total flight distance of 3,985 nautical miles in 472 minutes, while consuming 58,081 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300 touched down on runway 04R at PHNL Daniel K Inouye International Airport with a score of 96.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, aligning with the heading of 53.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,230 feet above ground level. The final approach was characterized by good threshold height, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 146 knots, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal landing conditions.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was a little fast at 138 knots, resulting in a touchdown rate of -218 feet per minute, which was considered fair. The touchdown point was located 160 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight overrun. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.0 meters from the centreline, which could have been a result of the crosswind component of 11 knots. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 27°C and wind at 18 knots from 90°, contributed to the landing dynamics.
The total landing distance of 1,799 meters was 66% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stabilize the aircraft during the critical phase of landing. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with the aircraft meeting the majority of the landing criteria, but with some minor deviations that prevented it from achieving a perfect score.
