MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope, off the centreline and wings not level.
At the 500 ft gate: off the runway's 3° glideslope, off the centreline and wings not level.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,387 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,387 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 266 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KHYW Conway Horry County Airport, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 22, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 458 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 103 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 210 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 14 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile southwest of KHYW Conway Horry County Airport and climbing from an altitude of 1,039 feet above sea level to 20,517 feet above sea level, an increase of 19,478 feet in 13 minutes and covering 36 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 3 miles east of Quinby, South Carolina, and lasting 16 minutes as it covered 76 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile southwest of 8A6 Wilgrove Charlotte, North Carolina, and descending from 19,725 feet above sea level to 5,937 feet above sea level, a decrease of 13,788 feet in 7 minutes and covering 29 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 2 miles south of N92 Laneys Airport Maiden, North Carolina, and lasting 2 minutes as it covered 6 nautical miles. The enroute descent continued, starting 1 mile north of Maiden, North Carolina, and descending from 5,375 feet above sea level to 2,896 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,479 feet in 3 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting overhead Longview, North Carolina, and lasting 5 minutes as it covered 15 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final climb, starting 1 mile northeast of 18NC Lanni Field Lenoir, North Carolina, and climbing from 3,163 feet above sea level to 5,875 feet above sea level, an increase of 2,712 feet in 5 minutes and covering 17 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 30 at NC06 Elk River Airport was made from the southeast, with the aircraft heading 302.0 degrees at 3 nautical miles and 2,355 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 30, which had a length of 1,387 meters. The threshold height at 56 feet above ground level was slightly above the target, while the threshold speed was excessively high at 107 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 267 meters, but the touchdown speed at 98 knots was excessively fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -271 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.6 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 121 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 0 knots and a tailwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 691 meters, which accounted for 50% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance was 196 nautical miles, taking 58 minutes and using 8 kilograms of fuel.
The Vision Jet aircraft successfully landed at NC06 Elk River Airport, but with some notable deviations from optimal performance. The final approach was initiated from the southeast, heading 302.0° at 3 nautical miles and 2,355 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 30, which has a length of 1,387 meters.
Upon landing, the threshold height was slightly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high on its approach. This could be attributed to a variety of factors, including pilot error or an issue with the aircraft's autopilot system. The threshold speed was excessively high at 107 knots, which is above the recommended landing speed for the Vision Jet. This could have resulted in a longer landing distance and potentially increased the risk of a runway excursion.
The touchdown distance was good at 267 meters, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down effectively after touchdown. However, the touchdown speed was excessively fast at 98 knots, which could have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and potentially increased the risk of a runway excursion. The touchdown rate was fair at -271 feet per minute (fpm), which is within the acceptable range for a safe landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.6 meters from the centerline, which could have resulted in a longer landing distance and potentially increased the risk of a runway excursion. However, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft after touchdown and bring it to a stop safely.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 5 knots at 121°. The crosswind was negligible, and the tailwind was 5 knots, which could have contributed to the high touchdown speed. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some notable deviations from optimal performance that could be addressed through further training or adjustments to the aircraft's systems.
