Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,682 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 431 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (KMSP), the Boeing 737-800 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. Upon reaching runway 17, the aircraft initiated its departure roll, accelerating down the 1,433-meter-long runway, which it covered at 59% of its length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 163 knots, overcoming the headwind of 14 knots and the crosswind of 5 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of KMSP, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an initial altitude of 1,932 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 35,647 feet, a vertical gain of 33,715 feet in just 13 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 141 nautical miles. The aircraft then transitioned into a level cruise, maintaining a steady altitude for 44 minutes as it covered a distance of 987 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 11 miles south of Walnut Creek, Arizona, where the aircraft descended from 35,731 feet to 1,770 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 143 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 13R at Palm Springs International Airport (KPSP) was initiated from the northwest, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 143.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level, 4 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft landed on the 1,682-meter-long runway, touching down at a speed of 141 knots, which was slightly faster than the recommended threshold speed. The touchdown distance was 432 meters, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,281 nautical miles, and the aircraft used 8,196 kilograms of fuel during the flight, which lasted a total of 82 minutes.
The Boeing 737-800 touched down on runway 13R at KPSP Palm Springs International Airport with a score of 96.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north west, aligning with the centreline at 143.0°, and began its descent from 1,307 feet above ground level (agl) at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the threshold. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 147 knots, which was within the acceptable range.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, the touchdown characteristics were observed to be firm, with a touchdown rate of -333 feet per minute. However, the touchdown speed of 141 knots was slightly above the recommended value. The touchdown distance of 432 meters was within the acceptable range, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of accuracy in the pilot's control of the aircraft. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 38°C, did not appear to have any significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,338 meters was 80% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centreline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered to be a good one, with the aircraft performing well in terms of approach quality, touchdown characteristics, and rollout alignment.
