Improve the pattern base leg turn
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,488 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 361 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 0.23 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
Departure from Groningen Airport Eelde, EHGG, commenced with a roll on runway 23. The aircraft, a Legacy G3X GTN750XI, accelerated to liftoff speed of 112 kt, achieving lift-off in a distance of 723 meters, which represented 29% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 16 °C and a light wind of 1 kt from 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind component.
Following a right-hand pattern entry from runway 23, the aircraft navigated the circuit, executing a series of turns and legs that culminated in a final approach to runway 05. The approach was conducted from the southwest, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 51.0° at an altitude of 256 ft above ground level. The landing was executed smoothly, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 84 kt and a distance of 365 meters. The touchdown rate was -140 fpm, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was also satisfactory, with the aircraft aligning well with the runway centerline.
The flight, which covered a total distance of 6 nm, utilized a fuel quantity of 2 kg and was completed in 4 minutes. The Legacy G3X GTN750XI performed well throughout the flight, demonstrating its capabilities in a variety of phases, including takeoff, circuit navigation, and landing. The aircraft's handling and performance were consistent with its design specifications, and the flight was executed safely and efficiently.
The final approach to runway 05 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde from the south west was executed with precision, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 51.0° at 0 nm and 256 ft above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 101 kt, well within the acceptable range. As the aircraft descended onto the runway, it touched down smoothly at a speed of 84 kt, with a touchdown distance of 365 m, which was within the expected parameters.
The touchdown characteristics were noteworthy, with a smooth touchdown rate of -140 fpm, indicating a well-controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway centerline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and a wind of 1 kt at 270°, contributed to a stable and predictable approach. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 1 kt each, further reducing the risk of any deviations from the planned approach path.
The overall performance of the aircraft during the landing was outstanding, with a score of 99.2%. The combination of a good threshold height, speed, and touchdown characteristics, along with excellent runway alignment, resulted in a smooth and controlled touchdown. The pilot's skill and attention to detail were evident throughout the approach and landing, demonstrating a high level of proficiency and expertise.
