Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,542 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,179 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
This flight was operated by a Boeing 777-300 aircraft. The pre-flight taxiing process took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile (nm) as the aircraft made its way from the parking area to the runway. The departure roll took place on runway 04 at EDDC Dresden Airport, with the takeoff distance being 295 meters, which is 12% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 191 knots (kt).
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 kt at a direction of 60 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 kt and a headwind of 4 kt. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile north east of EDDC Dresden Airport, rising from an altitude of 1,779 feet above sea level (asl) to 8,007 ft asl, an increase of 6,228 ft in just 2 minutes, while covering a distance of 8 nm.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its enroute descent overhead Grossroehrsdorf, a town in Saxony, Germany. The descent took place from an altitude of 7,993 ft asl to 2,087 ft asl, a decrease of 5,906 ft in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nm. The final approach to runway 04 at EDDC Dresden Airport was made from the south west, with the aircraft heading at an angle of 38.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nm and an altitude of 1,348 feet above ground level (agl).
The landing on runway 04 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 149 kt, which was a little fast. The touchdown point was 795 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 kt at a direction of 60 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 kt and a headwind of 4 kt.
The total flight distance was 29 nm, and the flight duration was 15 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 2,749 kg of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at EDDC Dresden Airport, achieving an overall score of 84.5%. The final approach to runway 04 was initiated from the south-west, with a heading of 38.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,348 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being above the target at 63 feet agl. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 150 knots, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown point was located 795 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may be considered slightly off-center.
The touchdown speed of 149 knots was slightly faster than the ideal speed, which could be attributed to the aircraft's momentum and the pilot's decision to touch down at that speed. Nevertheless, the touchdown rate of -224 feet per minute (fpm) was deemed fair, suggesting a relatively smooth and controlled touchdown.
The runway touchdown alignment was reported to be very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing process. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 60°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely on the runway. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and alignment with the designated touchdown zone.
