MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope and speed above the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,892 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,892 m of the 2,806 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 221 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at HSSS Khartoum took approximately 6 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The Boeing 777-300 then began its departure roll on runway 36, utilizing 45% of the available runway length to achieve liftoff at a speed of 172 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure featured a temperature of 31°C, with a gentle headwind of 4 knots from a direction of 355°.
As the aircraft climbed away from Khartoum, it began its enroute climb 1 mile north of the airport, ascending from an initial altitude of 2,205 feet above sea level to a cruise altitude of 35,994 feet, a total increase of 33,788 feet in just 18 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 120 nautical miles. The aircraft then transitioned into a level cruise, maintaining a steady altitude for 118 minutes as it covered a distance of 899 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase commenced 21 miles west of Bokoro, with the aircraft descending from 35,999 feet to 2,884 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at FTTJ N'Djamena International Airport was initiated from the southwest, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 47.0° at an altitude of 1,892 feet above ground level. The landing was executed on the 2,806-meter runway, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 154 knots and a distance of 219 meters. The touchdown rate was firm at -302 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.9 meters. The total landing distance was 1,820 meters, accounting for 65% of the available runway length. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in just 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,148 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 169 minutes and a fuel consumption of 20,777 kilograms.
The Boeing 777-300 touched down on runway 05 at FTTJ N'Djamena International Airport, marking a successful conclusion to the approach from the south west. The aircraft's descent was well-managed, with a good threshold height achieved, allowing for a smooth transition to the runway. However, the threshold speed was notably higher than the target, reaching 157 kt, which may have been influenced by the prevailing headwind of 3 kt.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was recorded at 154 kt, which was faster than desired, resulting in a firm touchdown rate of -302 fpm. The touchdown distance of 219 m was satisfactory, but the runway touchdown position was slightly off-centre, deviating by 8.9 m from the centreline. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 23 °C and a light headwind, did not pose any significant challenges to the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,820 m was within the acceptable range, covering approximately 65% of the runway length. During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment was slightly off-centre, deviating by 8.5 m from the centreline. Despite these minor deviations, the overall performance of the landing was impressive, earning a score of 95.6%.
