Flight Score
Arrival
Make small rudder corrections against a fixed point at the far end of the runway to hold the centreline.
What happened: You drifted off the centreline on the approach.
Watch for: Runway centreline: tracked all the way to the threshold.
See Arrival Approach
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: centreline 2.7° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,010 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 629 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from NTMN Hiva Oa-Atuona Airport on Hiva Oa Island in the Iles Marquises, French Polynesia, the Boeing 737-600 began its journey with a smooth taxiing phase from the parking area to the runway, taking approximately 3 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. As the aircraft lined up on runway 02, it was met with a local temperature of 29 °C and a wind of 9 kt at 103 °, resulting in a crosswind of 8 kt and a headwind of 2 kt. The takeoff roll commenced, and the aircraft lifted off the ground at a speed of 136 kt, utilizing 821 meters, or 57% of the runway's length.
As the aircraft transitioned into the enroute climb phase, it began to ascend from 2,247 feet above sea level to 38,775 feet, a vertical increase of 36,528 feet, in 35 minutes and covering 259 nautical miles. The climb phase was followed by a prolonged enroute level cruise, which lasted 273 minutes and spanned 2,173 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered the enroute descent phase, where it descended from 38,655 feet to 1,413 feet, a decrease of 37,242 feet, in 29 minutes and covering 199 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 34 at MMSD Aeropuerto Internacional de Los Cabos was initiated from the south, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 346.0 ° at 4 nautical miles and 1,063 feet above ground level.
The Boeing 737-600 touched down on runway 34, with a touchdown point located 204 meters beyond the touchdown zone. Although the touchdown speed of 113 kt was slightly above the target, the touchdown rate of -115 feet per minute was smooth, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The total landing distance of 1,050 meters, or 35% of the runway's length, was within acceptable limits. Following a brief taxiing phase to the parking area, which took approximately 1 minute to cover less than 1 nautical mile, the aircraft completed its journey, having traveled a total distance of 2,637 nautical miles and utilizing 14,063 kilograms of fuel in the process, which took a total of 345 minutes.
The Boeing 737-600 touched down on runway 34 at MMSD Aeropuerto Internacional de Los Cabos with a smooth touchdown rate of -115 fpm, indicating a well-executed approach. The aircraft's speed at touchdown, 113 kt, was slightly above the target, but still within acceptable limits. The touchdown point, 204 m beyond the touchdown zone, was a minor deviation from the ideal, but the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating excellent control and precision.
The approach quality was good, with a stable and controlled descent from 1,063 ft agl to the threshold height. The threshold speed of 126 kt was significantly above the target, indicating a high level of caution and attention to safety. The aircraft's performance during the approach and touchdown phases was satisfactory, with a total landing distance of 1,050 m, which accounted for 35% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, considering the runway length of 3,010 m.
The rollout phase was also executed well, with perfect alignment along the centreline. The aircraft's speed during rollout was not specified, but the fact that it maintained perfect alignment suggests that the pilots were able to control the aircraft's speed and direction effectively. Overall, the landing was scored 98.2%, indicating a high level of proficiency and adherence to standard operating procedures. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 25 °C, were likely favorable for the landing, but the pilots' skills and attention to detail were the primary factors contributing to the successful outcome.
