Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,037 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,037 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 353 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, then departed from runway 04 at the Aérodrome de Grenoble Le Versoud. The takeoff distance was 415 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 66 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 19°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 278°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the tailwind component was 3 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb overhead Le Versoud, in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France. The climb started from an altitude of 1,125 feet above sea level and reached a maximum altitude of 12,020 feet above sea level, an increase of 10,895 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 52 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase began 4 miles east of Sainte-Foy-Tarentaise, also in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France. This phase lasted for 78 minutes and covered a distance of 155 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 1 mile west of the Aviosuperficie Passo del Tonale Ponte di Legno in the Trentino-Alto Adige region of Italy. The descent was from an altitude of 12,745 feet above sea level to 7,200 feet above sea level, a decrease of 5,545 feet in just 3 minutes, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The final approach to runway 07 at the Aviosuperficie Passo del Tonale was made from the southwest, heading 72.0° at an altitude of 2 nautical miles and 962 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 07, which had a length of 1,037 meters. The threshold height at 101 feet above ground level was excessively over target, while the threshold speed was a little below target at 52 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 333 meters, and the touchdown speed was also good at 48 knots. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -422 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 175°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the tailwind component was 1 knot. The total landing distance was 612 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The total flight distance was 211 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 106 minutes. The aircraft used a total of -30 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at LIQM Aviosuperficie Passo del Tonale, achieving a score of 77.8%. The final approach was conducted from the south-west, heading 72.0° at 2 nautical miles and 962 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 07, which has a length of 1,037 meters.
The threshold height at 101 feet agl was found to be excessively over the target, indicating that the aircraft descended more than expected before reaching the runway threshold. However, the threshold speed was a little below the target at 52 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was slightly slower than desired when reaching the threshold. Despite this, the touchdown distance was good at 333 meters, and the touchdown speed of 48 knots was also within acceptable limits.
The touchdown rate, however, was hard at -422 feet per minute (fpm), which may indicate that the aircraft touched down with a higher rate of descent than intended. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from 175°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the tailwind component was 1 knot. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance was 612 meters, which is 59% of the runway length. This suggests that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, while there were some minor deviations from the target values, the Cessna C172 aircraft was able to successfully land at LIQM Aviosuperficie Passo del Tonale, achieving a score of 77.8%.
