Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,601 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 448 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A319, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Toulouse-Blagnac Airport, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 32R, and the takeoff distance was 1,527 meters, which is 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 155 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at a direction of 29 degrees.
The crosswind component was 2 knots, and the headwind component was 1 knot. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,524 feet above sea level to 34,204 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,680 feet, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 108 nautical miles.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise, which lasted for 9 minutes and covered a distance of 114 nautical miles. The cruise started 1 mile south of Jumilhac-le-Grand, a town in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region of France. Following the cruise, the aircraft began its enroute descent, which started 1 mile south of La Riche, a town in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France.
The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 34,293 feet above sea level to 1,523 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,770 feet, in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 114 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 31 at Caen-Carpiquet Airport was made from the southeast, heading 305.0 degrees, at an altitude of 1,281 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 31 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 450 meters, which is good, and a touchdown speed of 120 knots, which is also good. The touchdown rate was -197 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 0 knots at a direction of 0 degrees.
There was no crosswind or headwind component during the landing. The total landing distance was 1,056 meters, which is 66% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 344 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 46 minutes. The aircraft used 2,571 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at Caen-Carpiquet Airport, LFRK, with an impressive score of 99.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 305.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,281 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot's final approach was executed with precision, setting the stage for a smooth touchdown.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 31, which has a length of 1,601 meters. The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed of 130 knots was achieved, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance of 450 meters was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown speed of 120 knots was maintained, further demonstrating the pilot's skill and control.
The landing rate of -197 feet per minute (fpm) was also satisfactory, indicating a controlled descent and a safe touchdown. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft aligning itself with the centerline of the runway, showcasing the pilot's expertise in navigating the aircraft during the final stages of the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 5°C and no wind. This lack of wind meant that there was no crosswind or headwind to contend with, making the landing even more challenging and impressive. The total landing distance of 1,056 meters was 66% of the runway length, which is a respectable figure considering the aircraft's size and weight.
Finally, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase, ensuring a safe and controlled stop at the end of the runway. Overall, this landing was a testament to the pilot's skill and experience, as well as the aircraft's performance and handling characteristics.
