Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,195 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 491 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300, then departed from runway 24 at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The takeoff distance was 1,090 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 185 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 30 knots at a direction of 299 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 27 knots and a headwind of 15 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of Aalsmeerderbrug in the Netherlands. The climb took 15 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,017 feet above sea level to 33,383 feet, an increase of 32,365 feet. The distance covered during this period was 97 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 31 miles southeast of Orford in Suffolk, England, and lasted for 160 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 1,128 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 33,034 feet to 34,987 feet, an increase of 1,953 feet, in just 3 minutes. The distance covered during this climb was 26 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then resumed, starting at a location with coordinates 50.7938801 latitude and -28.6811548 longitude. This cruise lasted for 164 minutes and covered a distance of 1,218 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 34,406 feet to 36,407 feet, an increase of 2,000 feet, in just 3 minutes. The distance covered during this climb was 24 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then resumed, starting 48 miles east of CRB5 Rivière Bell Aerodrome in Quebec, Canada. This cruise lasted for 107 minutes and covered a distance of 734 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, starting 14 miles southeast of CPD5 Paudash Lake Seaplane Base in Ontario, Canada. The descent took 25 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 37,637 feet to 1,884 feet, a decrease of 35,754 feet. The distance covered during this period was 106 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport was made from the southwest, with a heading of 46.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,321 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 3 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots at a direction of 100 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The aircraft landed on runway 05, with a touchdown point 73 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 128 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was -174 feet per minute, which was also good. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 4.7 meters. The total landing distance was 1,428 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 3,342 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 496 minutes. The aircraft used
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport, achieving a score of 98.0%. The final approach to runway 05 was initiated from the southwest, with a heading of 46.0° at an altitude of 1,321 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 134 knots. The touchdown point was located 73 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 128 knots was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -174 feet per minute (fpm) was also good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 3°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 100°. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 4 knots. Despite these conditions, the aircraft's landing performance was satisfactory.
The total landing distance of 1,428 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively, allowing for a stable and controlled deceleration.
Overall, the landing of the Boeing 777-300 at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport was a successful one, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and stability throughout the approach and landing phases.
