Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,492 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 270 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 26 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 22 at KCOD Yellowstone Regional Airport, with a takeoff distance of 2,101 meters, which accounted for 96% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots at 230 degrees. The crosswind was negligible, but there was a headwind of 6 knots. The enroute climb started shortly after departure, 1 mile south of Cody, Wyoming, and involved a significant increase in altitude from 6,208 feet above sea level to 14,954 feet above sea level. This climb covered a distance of 15 nautical miles and took 4 minutes.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 7 miles northwest of Meeteetse, Wyoming. This phase lasted for 5 minutes and covered a distance of 32 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 24 miles west of KHSG Hot Springs County Airport Thermopolis, and involved a decrease in altitude from 15,412 feet above sea level to 6,602 feet above sea level. This descent covered a distance of 39 nautical miles and took 10 minutes.
The final approach to runway 10 at KRIW Central Wyoming Regional Airport was made from the west, with a heading of 114.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,077 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 10 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 272 meters, which was 53% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 134 knots, and the touchdown rate was -717 feet per minute, which was considered very heavy.
However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.9 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots at 110 degrees, with a negligible crosswind and a headwind of 5 knots.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 99 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 38 minutes. The aircraft used 1,039 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The CRJ900 aircraft successfully landed at KRIW Central Wyoming Regional Airport, achieving a score of 90.7%. The final approach was conducted from the west, heading 114.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,077 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 10, which has a length of 2,492 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 142 knots, indicating a well-executed approach. The touchdown distance of 272 meters was also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 134 knots was slightly below the expected value, but still considered good. The touchdown rate of -717 feet per minute (fpm) was deemed very heavy, suggesting that the aircraft may have touched down with a higher than ideal rate of descent.
Upon landing, the aircraft's runway touchdown position was found to be misaligned by 9.9 meters from the centerline. This discrepancy may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 5 knots from 110°. The crosswind component was negligible, while the headwind component was 5 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,328 meters was 53% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. However, the runway rollout alignment was found to be slightly misaligned by 10.5 meters from the centerline. This may have been due to the aircraft's initial touchdown position or the pilot's response to the landing. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with some minor discrepancies that can be addressed in future training or operations.
