Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,598 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,598 m of the 3,290 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 663 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 09 at RPMZ Zamboanga International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,814 meters, which was 70% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 176 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 29°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 295°. The crosswind component was 1 knot, while the tailwind component was 2 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead Zamboanga, a city located on the Zamboanga Peninsula in the Philippines. The climb took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 85 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,091 feet above sea level to 30,248 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,157 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles north of Salug, another city on the Zamboanga Peninsula. This phase lasted for 4 minutes and covered a distance of 35 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 10 miles north of Manukan, a city on the Zamboanga Peninsula. The descent took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 106 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 30,257 feet above sea level to 1,311 feet above sea level, a decrease of 28,946 feet.
The final approach to runway 04 at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport was made from the southwest, with a heading of 45.0°. The aircraft was at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,275 feet above ground level at this point. However, a go-around was initiated at an altitude of 129 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 04, which had a length of 3,290 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 135 knots.
The touchdown point was 244 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 126 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was also good at -194 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 5.4 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 30°C, with a wind speed of 8 knots at 19°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,514 meters, which was 46% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 241 nautical miles, which was covered in 63 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,659 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport, achieving a high score of 94.5%. The final approach to runway 04 was conducted from the southwest, with a heading of 45.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,275 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 135 knots. The touchdown point was located 244 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal position. However, the touchdown speed of 126 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -194 feet per minute (fpm) was also good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 19°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,514 meters was 46% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was excellent, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled during the landing and rollout phases.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft's performance was satisfactory. However, there is room for improvement in terms of touchdown point accuracy and alignment with the runway centerline.
