Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,138 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 109 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 30 at LEVC Valencia Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,807 meters, which accounted for 62% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 166 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 16 knots at 229 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 15 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 2 miles west of Manises, Spain. The climb took 21 minutes and covered a distance of 146 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,654 feet above sea level to 35,023 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,369 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles southeast of Sitges, Spain. This phase lasted for 56 minutes and covered a distance of 393 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile northeast of Semsales, Switzerland. The descent took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 83 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 35,023 feet above sea level to 2,812 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,211 feet.
The final approach to runway 14 at LSZH Zürich Airport was made from the northwest, with a heading of 137.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,397 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 14, which had a length of 3,138 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 141 knots. However, the touchdown speed was a little fast at 139 knots, and the touchdown rate was very heavy at -750 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots at 230 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 0 knots. The total landing distance was 961 meters, which accounted for 31% of the runway.
The final taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 634 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 115 minutes. The aircraft used 4,657 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 has successfully landed at Zürich Airport (LSZH) on runway 14, achieving a score of 90.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 137.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,397 feet above ground level (agl).
The landing was executed with a good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway threshold. The threshold speed of 141 knots was also within the acceptable range, suggesting that the pilot had maintained control and was on track to land safely.
However, there were a few areas for improvement. The touchdown speed of 139 knots was slightly faster than desired, which may have contributed to the heavy touchdown rate of -750 feet per minute (fpm). A heavier touchdown rate can put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and may increase the risk of damage.
Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment during the final approach. This misalignment also carried over to the runway rollout, where the aircraft was still slightly off-centerline by 10.2 meters.
Despite these minor issues, the total landing distance of 961 meters was within 31% of the runway length, indicating that the pilot had maintained control and was able to bring the aircraft to a safe stop. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 5°C and a light wind of 2 knots from 230°, were not particularly challenging, which may have contributed to the successful landing.
Overall, while there were some areas for improvement, the Airbus A320 pilot demonstrated good skills and control during the landing, achieving a respectable score of 90.5%.
