Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,490 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 472 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Groningen Airport Eelde, the aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 23, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 104 kt in 1,263 meters, which represented 51% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 15 °C and a negligible wind of 1 kt from 270°, resulting in a negligible crosswind and headwind.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern, it demonstrated efficient maneuverability, completing the pattern entry in less than 1 nm in 19 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn was executed in 15 seconds, showcasing the aircraft's responsiveness to control inputs. The pilot then initiated the downwind turn, maintaining a 45-degree angle to the runway and covering a distance of 1 nm. The downwind leg itself spanned 2 nm, with the aircraft maintaining a steady heading. Following the base leg turn, the aircraft aligned itself with the runway, preparing for the final approach.
The aircraft successfully landed on runway 23, touching down at a speed of 82 kt and a distance of 476 meters, which represented 38% of the available runway length. The touchdown rate was a commendable -43 fpm, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The aircraft's rollout alignment was also flawless, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the landing phase. The total landing distance was 935 meters, and the aircraft consumed 2 kg less fuel than expected, resulting in a total flight distance of 6 nm and a fuel efficiency of 4 minutes.
The final approach to runway 23 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde was executed from the north east, aligning with the heading of 231.0° at 0 nm and 292 ft above ground level. The aircraft maintained a stable and controlled descent throughout the approach, with a good threshold height achieved. The threshold speed was also well-managed, reaching 95 kt as required.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft displayed excellent characteristics, with a touchdown speed of 82 kt and a touchdown rate of -43 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The touchdown distance of 476 m was also within the acceptable range, demonstrating good control and precision. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15 °C and a light wind of 1 kt from 270°, contributed to a stable and predictable approach.
The rollout phase was equally impressive, with the aircraft maintaining perfect alignment with the runway centerline. The total landing distance of 935 m, which accounted for 38% of the runway length, was well within the acceptable range. Overall, the landing was executed to a high standard, with a score of 100.0% achieved. The combination of good approach quality, precise touchdown, and controlled rollout resulted in a flawless landing, showcasing the pilot's exceptional skill and expertise.
