MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 6,740 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,740 ft of the 12,102 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 3,567 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was operated by an Airbus A380 aircraft. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 24L at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX), with a takeoff distance of 5,901 feet, which accounted for 62% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 166 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 60°F temperature and a wind speed of 7 knots at 130 degrees. The crosswind and tailwind components were both 5 knots. The enroute climb started 2 miles south of Marina del Rey, California, and the aircraft climbed from 1,005 feet above sea level to 7,674 feet, an increase of 6,669 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 8 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, starting 7 miles southwest of Venice Beach, Los Angeles, and lasting 2 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The next climb phase began 3 miles west of Topanga, California, and the aircraft climbed from 8,058 feet to 34,504 feet, an increase of 26,446 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 78 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 2 miles southwest of Rosedale, California, and lasting 83 minutes, covering a distance of 1,347 nautical miles. The next climb phase began 16 miles east of Muskeg Tower Airport in Alberta, Canada, and the aircraft climbed from 32,382 feet to 34,410 feet, an increase of 2,028 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 36 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 15 miles northeast of Axe Lake Aerodrome in Saskatchewan, Canada, and lasting 411 minutes, covering a distance of 3,039 nautical miles. The next climb phase began 10 miles south of Vuotso Airfield in Lapland, Finland, and the aircraft climbed from 35,119 feet to 36,887 feet, an increase of 1,768 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 21 miles north of Savukoski in Lapland, Finland, and lasting 44 minutes, covering a distance of 619 nautical miles. The next descent phase began overhead Breytovo in Yaroslavskaya Oblast', Russia, and the aircraft descended from 36,421 feet to 15,008 feet, a decrease of 21,413 feet in 13 minutes, covering a distance of 84 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 7 miles east of Kimry in Tverskaya Oblast', Russia, and lasting 39 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The next descent phase began 7 miles east of Kimry, and the aircraft descended from 14,747 feet to 2,340 feet, a decrease of 12,407 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 49 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, starting 4 miles west of Lesnoy in Moscow Oblast, Russia, and lasting 4 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 24L at Sheremetyevo International Airport began from the east, heading 255.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,272 feet above ground level.
The aircraft landed on runway 24L, with a runway length of 12
The Airbus A380 has successfully landed at UUEE Sheremetyevo International Airport, with a score of 88.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 255.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,272 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on runway 24L, which has a length of 12,102 feet.
Upon reaching the threshold, the aircraft's height was above the target at 66 feet agl, and the speed was slightly above the target at 146 knots. The touchdown point was located 2,198 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which indicates a slight deviation from the ideal landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 126 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -104 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 28°F and a wind speed of 4 knots from 220°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing.
The total landing distance covered by the aircraft was 6,471 feet, which accounts for 53% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain its direction and speed during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down smoothly and coming to a stop within a reasonable distance. However, the slight deviation from the touchdown zone and the slightly above-target speed at threshold may indicate areas for improvement in future landings.
