Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed and off the runway's 3° glideslope.
At the 500 ft gate: sink rate above what the glideslope needed, off the runway's 3° glideslope and off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,991 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 105 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 09 at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (VABB) in Mumbai, India. The takeoff distance was 1,410 meters, which is 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 27°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots at 119°. The crosswind component was 2 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Mumbai and ascending from 1,061 feet above sea level to 17,619 feet above sea level, an increase of 16,557 feet in 8 minutes, covering a distance of 40 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile north-east of Shahapur, lasting 51 minutes and covering 291 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 18,213 feet above sea level to 36,050 feet above sea level, an increase of 17,838 feet in 11 minutes, covering a distance of 77 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 10 miles south-east of Basoda, lasting 70 minutes and covering 565 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile north of Kishanganj and descending from 35,956 feet above sea level to 9,582 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,374 feet in 22 minutes, covering a distance of 122 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 33 at Paro International Airport (VQPR) was made from the south-east, heading 340.0° at 4 nautical miles and 2,214 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 33 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 104 meters, which is 52% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was heavy at -698 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16°C, with a wind speed of 14 knots at 170°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the tailwind component was 14 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,036 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.5 meters from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,103 nautical miles, taking 172 minutes, and the aircraft used 6,752 kilograms of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at VQPR Paro International Airport, achieving a score of 90.5%. The final approach was conducted from the south east, heading 340.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 2,214 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft landed on runway 33, which has a length of 1,991 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was maintained at 132 knots, indicating a good approach configuration. However, the touchdown speed of 130 knots was slightly faster than ideal, which may have contributed to a heavy touchdown rate of -698 feet per minute (fpm). This high rate of descent may have resulted in a slightly rough landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 14 knots from 170°. The crosswind component was relatively light at 5 knots, while the tailwind component was 14 knots, which may have affected the aircraft's approach and landing performance.
The total landing distance was 1,036 meters, which corresponds to 52% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating a good approach and landing configuration. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.5 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's rollout path.
Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with some minor deviations from ideal performance. The aircraft's score of 90.5% reflects a good overall performance, but with some room for improvement in terms of touchdown speed and rollout alignment.
