Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 7,043 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 7,043 ft of the 11,984 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,576 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (KCLT) took approximately 9 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its departure roll on runway 36R, utilizing 5,819 feet of the available runway, which represented 67% of the total length. Liftoff speed was achieved at 159 knots, as the aircraft lifted off into the local weather conditions, characterized by a temperature of 69°F and a wind of 4 knots at 60°.
As the aircraft climbed away from KCLT, it began its enroute climb 1 mile north of the airport, ascending from 1,769 feet above sea level to 35,897 feet, an increase of 34,128 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 171 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise phase commenced 5 miles east of Newington, Georgia, and lasted for 26 minutes, during which the aircraft covered 207 nautical miles. Subsequently, the enroute descent phase began 5 miles east of Marshall Swamp Airport (9FA5) in Ocala, Florida, where the aircraft descended from 36,004 feet to 1,335 feet, a decrease of 34,669 feet in 28 minutes, covering a distance of 171 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24 at Southwest Florida International Airport (KRSW) was conducted from the northeast, with a heading of 234.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,301 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the 11,984-foot runway, with a touchdown point 1,227 feet beyond the touchdown zone, at a speed of 142 knots, which was slightly above the target. The touchdown rate was excellent at -72 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Following a total landing distance of 6,794 feet, representing 57% of the runway length, the aircraft taxied to the parking area in 1 minute, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 557 nautical miles, with a flight time of 92 minutes and a fuel consumption of 9,479 pounds.
The final approach to runway 24 at KRSW Southwest Florida International Airport was executed from the north east, heading 234.0° at 4 nm and 1,301 ft above ground level. The aircraft maintained a stable and controlled descent throughout the approach, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, reaching 151 kt.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was located 1,227 ft beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slightly long touchdown. The touchdown speed of 142 kt was also a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -72 fpm was excellent, demonstrating a smooth and controlled deceleration. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft maintaining a precise centerline alignment. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 88°F and a light headwind of 2 kt, contributed to a stable and predictable approach.
The total landing distance of 6,794 ft was 57% of the runway length, indicating a relatively long rollout. However, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining a precise centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered to be of high quality, with a score of 96.2% reflecting the aircraft's stable and controlled approach, touchdown, and rollout.
