Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,612 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,612 m of the 3,060 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 577 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 26 at Matecaña International Airport in Pereira, Colombia. The Boeing 737-800 took off with a takeoff distance of 1,444 meters, which was 72% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 144 knots, and the aircraft climbed away from the airport.
As the aircraft climbed, it encountered local weather conditions of 31 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 233 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, and the headwind component was 2 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile west of the airport and continued for 25 minutes, during which the aircraft climbed from 5,089 feet above sea level to 35,872 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,783 feet. The aircraft covered a distance of 170 nautical miles during this climb.
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 12 miles northeast of Alfemar Airport in Jurado, Colombia. This phase lasted for 4 minutes and covered a distance of 36 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 11 miles east of Jaqué Airport in Panama. The descent phase lasted for 22 minutes and covered a distance of 125 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from 35,887 feet above sea level to 1,316 feet above sea level, a decrease of 34,571 feet.
The final approach to runway 03R at Tocumen International Airport was made from the southwest, heading 30.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, which was 3,060 meters long, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was slightly below the target speed at 133 knots. The touchdown point was 159 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 124 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was also good at -167 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 31 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 40 degrees. The crosswind component was 1 knot, and the headwind component was 6 knots. The total landing distance was 1,530 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway, which took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 338 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 63 minutes. The aircraft used 2,849 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at MPTO Tocumen International Airport on runway 03R, achieving a high score of 98.4%. The final approach was conducted from the southwest, heading 30.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, which is a critical aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 133 knots, indicating a controlled descent. The touchdown point was 159 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 124 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -167 feet per minute (fpm) was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline, which is a minor deviation. However, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 31°C and a wind speed of 6 knots at 40°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 6 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,530 meters was 50% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft came to a stop within a safe distance from the runway threshold.
