Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,494 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 416 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight of Li-2 Aeroflot USSR-69318 began with a 6-minute taxi from the parking area to the runway at LRAR Arad. The takeoff roll on runway 27 covered a distance of 539 meters, which was 30% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 73 knots, with the local weather showing a temperature of 16°C and wind speeds of 8 knots coming from 324° resulting in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
After departing from LRAR Arad, the climb began 1 mile west of the airport, climbing from 904 feet above sea level to 2,262 feet, covering a distance of 6 miles in 3 minutes. The enroute level cruise started 1 mile north of Sagu and lasted 4 minutes, covering a distance of 10 miles.
The landing occurred on runway 29 at LRTR Traian Vuia, which had a length of 3,494 meters. The aircraft was at a height of 51 feet above ground level at the threshold and touched down at a speed of 65 knots, 413 meters from the threshold. The vertical speed indicator showed a descent rate of -328 feet per minute during touchdown. The local weather at LRTR Traian Vuia was recorded at 16°C with a wind speed of 8 knots coming from 324°, resulting in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The total landing distance was 872 meters, which was 25% of the runway length.
After landing, the aircraft taxied for 4 minutes and covered 1 mile to reach the parking area. The total flight distance was 28 miles, and the flight took 35 minutes, consuming 91 kg of fuel.
Firstly, congratulations on achieving a landing score of 92.7%! Your excellent performance during the Approach Phase was particularly noteworthy, with your glideslope alignment being spot on. It's great to hear that your speed was slightly below target, as this shows good control and precision during the descent towards the runway.
Moving on to the Landing Phase, it's good to see that your threshold height was well-executed. However, there seems to be some room for improvement in the landing flare, as it was rated as very poor. The landing flare is crucial for a smooth touchdown, so focusing on this aspect during future landings could further enhance your overall performance.
Despite the less than ideal landing flare, it's impressive that your Touchdown Phase featured a hard touchdown rate. Additionally, it's reassuring to know that your speed was on target during this phase. Furthermore, the fact that your touchdown distance fell within the touchdown zone and that the runway touchdown position was only 2.7 meters from the centerline indicates a commendable level of accuracy.
As for the Rollout Phase, while your runway alignment was slightly off at 5.9 meters from the centerline, this is a minor point of improvement that can be easily addressed with practice and attention to detail.
In conclusion, your overall performance during the aircraft landing was excellent, with strong points in glideslope alignment, threshold height, and speed control. By focusing on refining your landing flare and runway alignment, you have the opportunity to further enhance your skills and achieve even higher scores in future landings. Keep up the great work and continue to strive for excellence in all phases of the landing process. Well done!
