Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,692 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,692 m of the 3,138 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 569 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 25 at LIRF Rome–Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,491 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 152 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 8 knots at a direction of 280 degrees.
The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the airport and took the aircraft up to a height of 31,800 feet above sea level. This climb phase covered a distance of 93 nautical miles and took 17 minutes to complete, with the aircraft increasing its altitude by 30,763 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 35 minutes and covered a distance of 227 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place 2 miles south west of Rapolano Terme in Toscana, Italy. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 4 miles north of Faido in Ticino, Switzerland. During this phase, the aircraft descended from a height of 31,797 feet above sea level to 2,689 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,108 feet in 25 minutes, covering a distance of 61 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 14 at LSZH Zürich Airport was made from the north west, with the aircraft heading at 137.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 10 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 6 knots at a direction of 170 degrees. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 5 knots.
The aircraft landed on runway 14 at LSZH Zürich Airport, which had a length of 3,138 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 138 knots. However, the touchdown point was 154 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 133 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -459 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 18.9 meters from the centreline.
The total landing distance was 1,612 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 18.9 meters from the centreline. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 9 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 390 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 103 minutes. The aircraft used 3,632 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 14 at Zürich Airport (LSZH) with a score of 83.8%. The final approach was initiated from the north-west, heading 137.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,277 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 138 knots.
However, there were a few areas of concern during the landing. The touchdown point was 154 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the aircraft touched down slightly further down the runway than intended. Additionally, the touchdown speed of 133 knots was a bit faster than desired, and the touchdown rate was hard at -459 feet per minute (fpm). This could potentially put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and other components.
Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 18.9 meters from the centerline, which could have contributed to the hard touchdown and the subsequent rollout alignment issues. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 10°C, a wind speed of 6 knots at 170°, and a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 5 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,612 meters, which is 51% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, but it could have been achieved with more precise control and alignment during the final approach and touchdown. The rollout alignment was also misaligned by 18.9 meters from the centerline, which could have been avoided with more precise control during the landing roll.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were several areas of concern that need to be addressed to improve the aircraft's performance and safety. With some adjustments to the approach and touchdown technique, the aircraft could potentially achieve a higher score and a more precise landing.
