MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Not the biggest loss in points — the one thing on this flight a check pilot would raise first, and the guide passage for it.
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,846 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,846 m of the 2,642 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 933 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737-800 taxied from the parking area to runway 24R at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport; the taxi-out required 10 minutes and covered 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 24R, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 158 kt and left the ground after traveling 1,430 m, which represented 41 % of the runway length. Ambient conditions were 18 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt head-wind component.
The climb commenced overhead LEBL, climbing from 1,052 ft asl to 29,981 ft asl - an increase of 28,928 ft - in 16 minutes while covering 111 nm.
The first cruise segment began 19 mi east of Tamariu, lasted 5 minutes and spanned 105 nm.
The initial descent started 13 mi south-west of Mazargues, descending from 28,785 ft asl to 5,051 ft asl - a loss of 23,734 ft - over 12 minutes and 77 nm.
A second cruise phase originated 2 mi south-east of Les Arcs, persisted for 2 minutes and covered 6 nm.
The next descent began 2 mi south of Roquebrune-sur-Argens, dropping from 4,788 ft asl to 3,974 ft asl - a decrease of 814 ft - in 2 minutes while traveling 6 nm.
A third cruise segment started 2 mi south-east of Saint-Raphael, lasted 3 minutes and encompassed 10 nm.
The final descent was initiated 2 mi east of Theoule-sur-Mer, descending from 3,988 ft asl to 1,266 ft asl - a loss of 2,723 ft - in 4 minutes and covering 9 nm.
On final approach to runway 04L at LFMN Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport, the aircraft approached from the south-west on a heading of 43.0° at 4 nm and 1,246 ft agl.
Landing on runway 04L, which is 2,642 m long, the threshold speed was 144 kt. Touchdown occurred 516 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 127 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 207 fpm and very good alignment. Local weather reported 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 270°, a 1 kt cross-wind and a 1 kt tail-wind component.
The rollout distance measured 1,764 m, representing 67 % of the runway, and the aircraft maintained perfect alignment during the roll.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 4 minutes, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 335 nm, lasted 59 minutes and consumed 3,426 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 737-800 executed a final approach to runway 04L at LFMN Nice-Côte d’Azur Airport from the south-west, heading 43.0° at 4 nm and 1,246 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits.
At threshold the height was good and the threshold speed was good at 144 kt.
Touchdown occurred 516 m beyond the touchdown zone. Touchdown speed was good at 127 kt, the touchdown rate was fair at -207 fpm and runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The total landing distance was 1,764 m, representing 67 % of the runway, and runway rollout alignment was perfect.
Minor refinements should focus on achieving a touchdown point nearer the 300 m (1,000 ft) aim point and moderating the flare to reduce the descent rate, which will further improve the already strong score of 88.9 %.
