Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,769 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,769 m of the 3,986 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 592 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EDDW Bremen Airport. This process took 8 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 27, and the takeoff distance was 1,289 meters, which accounted for 63% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 9°C temperature and a wind speed of 11 knots at 330°. The crosswind was 9 knots, and the headwind was 5 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Stuhr, a town in Lower Saxony, Germany, and the aircraft climbed from 993 feet above sea level to 34,184 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,192 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 151 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Niederzimmern, a town in Thuringia, Germany, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering 39 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 2 miles southwest of Tanna, another town in Thuringia, Germany, and descended from 34,132 feet above sea level to 3,882 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,251 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 120 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed overhead Geisenhausen, a town in Bavaria, Germany, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering 15 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 26R at EDDM Munich Airport was made from the east, heading 264.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,328 feet above ground level.
The landing took place on runway 26R, which had a length of 3,986 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 145 knots. The touchdown point was 176 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 135 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -138 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 7°C temperature and a wind speed of 4 knots at 310°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 1,688 meters, which accounted for 42% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight distance was 335 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 64 minutes. The aircraft used 3,222 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at EDDM Munich Airport, achieving a score of 97.9%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the east, heading 264.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,328 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was made to runway 26R, which has a length of 3,986 meters.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down with a threshold speed that was slightly above the target speed of 145 knots. The touchdown point was located 176 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight deviation from the intended landing spot. However, the touchdown speed of 135 knots was a little fast, which may have contributed to the slightly off-center touchdown.
Despite the minor deviations, the touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -138 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots from 310°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,688 meters, which corresponds to 42% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to touch down and come to a stop within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 97.9%. While there were some minor deviations from the intended landing spot and speed, the touchdown rate was smooth, and the runway touchdown and rollout alignments were very good.
