Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,496 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,496 ft of the 13,076 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,400 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Heraklion International Nikos Kazantzakis Airport, the Airbus A320 began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. As the aircraft lined up on runway 09, the crew initiated the departure roll, and the aircraft lifted off the ground after a takeoff distance of 4,704 feet, which represented 64% of the available runway length. The liftoff speed was 162 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 73°F and a gentle wind of 2 knots from 169°.
As the aircraft climbed away from Heraklion, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile east of the airport and continued for 21 minutes, covering a distance of 134 nautical miles and an altitude increase of 32,922 feet to 33,897 feet above sea level. The crew then transitioned to a level cruise, which lasted for 82 minutes and covered 587 nautical miles, before initiating another climb 1 mile south east of Poljana, Croatia. This climb was shorter, lasting only 2 minutes, and resulted in an altitude increase of 1,625 feet to 35,660 feet above sea level. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which lasted for 45 minutes and covered 325 nautical miles, before beginning its descent towards Berlin Brandenburg Airport.
As the aircraft descended from 36,022 feet above sea level to 1,435 feet above sea level, it covered a distance of 113 nautical miles in 22 minutes. The final approach to runway 24L at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport was initiated from the east, and the aircraft touched down on the runway with a touchdown speed of 142 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -154 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The total landing distance was 6,243 feet, which represented 48% of the available runway length. After taxiing to the parking area, the aircraft had completed a total flight distance of 1,180 nautical miles, using 16,496 pounds of fuel and taking a total of 187 minutes.
The final approach to runway 24L at EDDB Berlin Brandenburg Airport was conducted from the east, aligning with the heading of 249.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,271 feet above ground level. The approach quality was satisfactory, with a good threshold height achieved. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target, reaching 153 knots.
As the aircraft touched down on the runway, the touchdown point was located 1,047 feet beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slightly long touchdown. The touchdown speed of 142 knots was also a little fast, but the touchdown rate of -154 feet per minute was good. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 48°F and a gentle headwind of 3 knots at 260°.
The total landing distance of 6,243 feet was 48% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, with the aircraft maintaining its centerline alignment throughout the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with a score of 95.0%.
