Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,699 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 197 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 21 at the Frank Miloye Milenkowichi–Marília State Airport, also known as SBML. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 152 kt, covering a distance of 860 m, which was 51% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 19 °C and a wind speed of 7 kt from a direction of 179 °, resulting in a 2 kt crosswind and a 7 kt headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead the city of Marilia in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. The climb was from an altitude of 3,052 ft above sea level to 3,577 ft, an increase of 525 ft in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 1 nm. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nm, 2 miles east of Marilia.
The final approach to runway 21 at SBML was initiated from the north, with the aircraft heading 197.0 ° at a distance of 2 nm from the runway threshold. The aircraft was at an altitude of 658 ft above ground level (agl) at this point. The landing was made on runway 21, which had a length of 1,699 m. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 120 kt.
The touchdown point was 50 m beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was slightly higher than ideal at 118 kt. However, the touchdown rate was good at -186 fpm, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were similar to those at takeoff, with a temperature of 19 °C and a wind speed of 5 kt from a direction of 180 °, resulting in a 1 kt crosswind and a 4 kt headwind.
The total landing distance was 887 m, which was 52% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled deceleration of the aircraft after touchdown. The total flight distance was 8 nm, and the flight duration was 4 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 6,812 kg of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at SBML Frank Miloye Milenkowichi–Marília State Airport, achieving a high score of 99.0%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the north, heading 197.0° at an altitude of 658 feet above ground level (agl) and 2 nautical miles from the runway. The pilot maintained a steady course, ensuring a smooth final approach.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 21, which has a length of 1,699 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 120 knots. However, the touchdown speed was slightly higher than ideal at 118 knots, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown.
The touchdown point was located 50 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown rate was good at -186 feet per minute (fpm), indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing smoothly. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control during the landing.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 19°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots from 180°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to reduce the landing distance. The total landing distance was 887 meters, which is 52% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot was able to control the aircraft effectively during the landing.
Finally, the runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control of the aircraft during the critical phase of landing. Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot achieving a high score and demonstrating excellent flying skills.
