Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,498 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 648 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 26 at NLWW Hihifo Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,274 meters, which accounted for 60% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 160 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and winds of 5 knots at 310 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 4 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile southwest of Vailala, Uvea, Wallis and Futuna, and the aircraft climbed from 1,009 feet above sea level to 24,915 feet above sea level, an increase of 23,907 feet in 15 minutes, covering 88 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 85 miles east of Liku, Uvea, Wallis and Futuna, and lasted 18 minutes, covering 149 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 5 miles east of Tafua, Palauli, Samoa, and the aircraft descended from 24,914 feet above sea level to 1,412 feet above sea level, a decrease of 23,502 feet in 17 minutes, covering 87 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at NSTU Pago Pago International Airport was made from the southwest, heading 59.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,369 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 05 was successful, with a touchdown point 233 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was -194 feet per minute, also good. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and winds of 4 knots at 340 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,440 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 332 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 58 minutes. The aircraft used 3,301 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at Pago Pago International Airport, achieving a high score of 96.6%. The final approach to runway 05 was conducted from the southwest, with a heading of 59.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,369 feet above ground level.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 144 knots. The touchdown point was located 233 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -194 feet per minute was also good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 28°C and a gentle wind of 4 knots from a direction of 340°. This resulted in a minimal crosswind component of 3 knots and a headwind of 1 knot, which did not pose any significant challenges to the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,440 meters was 58% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the landing roll.
Overall, the landing was executed smoothly and safely, with the aircraft touching down on the runway with a good speed and rate, and rolling out in a straight line. The high score achieved by the pilot is a testament to their skill and experience in landing the Boeing 737-800 at Pago Pago International Airport.
