Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,944 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,944 m of the 2,933 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,275 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 06 at VERP Raipur, where the Airbus A32NX took off with a takeoff distance of 1,484 meters, which was 69% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 152 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 29 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 2 knots at 20 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 2 knots.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb 2 miles northeast of VERP Raipur, reaching an altitude of 39,719 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,672 feet from the initial altitude of 2,048 feet. This climb took 24 minutes and covered a distance of 162 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, starting 23 miles southwest of Singrauli, which lasted for 20 minutes and covered 151 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 9 miles east of Ghosi, where the aircraft descended from 39,507 feet to 12,127 feet, a decrease of 27,380 feet in 14 minutes, covering 103 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 7 miles southeast of Hetauda, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered 11 nautical miles. The final descent started 12 miles south of Kirtipur, where the aircraft descended from 11,753 feet to 5,263 feet, a decrease of 6,490 feet in 6 minutes, covering 12 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 02 at VNKT Tribhuvan International Airport was from the southwest, with a heading of 65.0 degrees at 1 nautical mile and 873 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 02 was successful, with a touchdown point 841 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 128 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -89 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 16 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 3 knots at 119 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 0 knots. The total landing distance was 1,845 meters, which was 63% of the runway. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.6 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centerline.
The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 446 nautical miles, taking 71 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,511 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A32NX aircraft successfully landed at VNKT Tribhuvan International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal approach and landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 65.0° at 1 nautical mile and 873 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 02, which has a length of 2,933 meters.
However, the threshold height at 109 feet agl was significantly higher than the target, indicating that the aircraft was not properly configured for landing. Additionally, the threshold speed of 152 knots was well above the target, suggesting that the aircraft may have been experiencing some drag or other factors that affected its descent rate. Despite these issues, the touchdown speed of 128 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -89 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
The touchdown point was located 841 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the ideal landing position. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.6 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight drift or other factors affecting the aircraft's alignment during the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 3 knots from 119°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was negligible. The total landing distance of 1,845 meters was 63% of the runway length, which is a relatively long landing distance.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 11.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to the same factors that affected the touchdown position. Overall, while the landing was successful, there were several areas for improvement, including better threshold height and speed management, and more precise alignment during the approach and rollout.
