Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 407 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 407 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 181 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The XCub aircraft departed from Courchevel Altiport, rolling down runway 04. The takeoff distance covered 81% of the runway, measuring 441 meters. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 83 knots, reaching the desired altitude quickly.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Courchevel, a town in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region of France. The climb began at an altitude of 6,685 feet above sea level and reached 6,889 feet, an increase of 204 feet in just one minute. During this climb, the aircraft covered a distance of 2 nautical miles.
After the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, starting overhead Saint-Bon-Tarentaise. This phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent towards Méribel Altiport, preparing for landing.
The final approach to runway 15 at Méribel Altiport was initiated from the north-west, with the aircraft heading at 152.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 495 feet above ground level and 0 nautical miles from the runway threshold. The landing was smooth, with a threshold speed of 55 knots and a touchdown speed of 38 knots.
The touchdown distance was 178 meters, which was within the acceptable limits. The touchdown rate was perfect at 9 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 4.9 meters. The local weather conditions remained the same, with a temperature of -2 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from 278 degrees.
The total landing distance covered 60% of the runway, measuring 243 meters. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The total flight distance was 6 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 5 minutes. The aircraft used 2 kilograms of fuel during the entire flight.
The XCub aircraft successfully landed at LFKX Méribel Altiport, achieving a score of 95.1%. The final approach was conducted from the north-west, heading 152.0° at an altitude of 495 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft touched down on runway 15, which has a length of 407 meters.
The pilot demonstrated good control during the landing, achieving a threshold height and speed that met the required standards. The threshold speed was maintained at 55 knots, and the touchdown distance was within the acceptable range at 178 meters. The touchdown speed was also satisfactory at 38 knots, and the touchdown rate was perfect at 9 feet per minute (fpm).
However, there was a slight deviation in the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft being 4.9 meters off-centerline. This minor discrepancy did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -2°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots from 278°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the tailwind component was 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 243 meters, which accounted for 60% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, demonstrating the pilot's ability to maintain control and stability during the landing roll.
Overall, the XCub aircraft performed well during the landing at LFKX Méribel Altiport, with the pilot demonstrating good control and adherence to standard procedures. The minor deviations in the touchdown position and landing distance did not significantly impact the overall score, and the aircraft was able to stop safely within the designated runway area.
