Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,732 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,732 m of the 3,050 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 712 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KBNA Nashville International Airport, a process that took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 31, with a takeoff distance of 1,768 meters, which accounted for 61% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 157 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 35°C temperature and a wind speed of 15 knots at 330 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 14 knots. After departing from KBNA, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile northwest of the airport and rising from an altitude of 1,537 feet above sea level to 36,193 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,656 feet in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 109 nautical miles.
The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started 2 miles north of Grandview, Indiana, and lasted for 124 minutes, covering a distance of 196 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 2 miles north of Ossian, Indiana, and descending from 36,413 feet above sea level to 3,940 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,473 feet in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 92 nautical miles.
The enroute descent was followed by another level cruise, which started 2 miles northeast of the MI12 State Police HQ Heliport in East Lansing, Michigan, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 2 miles southeast of the 60MI Maybee Airport in Maybee, Michigan, and descending from 3,919 feet above sea level to 1,925 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,994 feet in 3 minutes and covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 04L at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was made from the southwest, with a heading of 29.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,271 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown point 310 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 123 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was firm at -331 feet per minute.
The total landing distance was 1,666 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 24°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 104 degrees. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, a process that took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The total flight distance was 423 nautical miles, which was covered in 89 minutes, and the aircraft used 3,618 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 04L at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, achieving a score of 89.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 29.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,271 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 138 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 310 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 123 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was firm at -331 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent. However, there was a slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft deviating 11.3 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots at 104°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot. The total landing distance was 1,666 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway length. During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned from the centerline, again by 11.3 meters.
Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a good touchdown speed and rate. However, the slight misalignment of the touchdown position and rollout alignment may require attention to ensure that the aircraft is properly aligned with the runway centerline.
