Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: off the centreline.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 786 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 786 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 602 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna C172, then departed from runway 09 at EDCX Flugplatz Purkshof. The takeoff distance was 403 meters, which accounted for 51% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 69 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 16 °C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 42°. The crosswind and headwind were both 2 knots. After departing from the airfield, the enroute climb started overhead EDCX Flugplatz Purkshof Rostock, where the aircraft climbed from 759 feet above sea level to 1,109 feet above sea level, an increase of 350 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise then began overhead Klein Kussewitz, lasting for 14 minutes and covering 3 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 09 at EDCX Flugplatz Purkshof was made from the west, with a heading of 94.0° at 2 nautical miles and 929 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 09, which had a length of 786 meters. The threshold height was excessively over target, but the threshold speed was good at 61 knots. The touchdown point was excessively long, using more than 75% of the available runway. The touchdown speed was good at 50 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -219 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions during landing were similar to those during takeoff, with a temperature of 15 °C and a wind speed of 3 knots at 44°. The crosswind and headwind were both 2 knots. The total landing distance was 808 meters, which was 103% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.4 meters from the centreline.
The final taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took approximately 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 9 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 23 minutes. The aircraft used 7 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna C172 aircraft successfully landed at EDCX Flugplatz Purkshof, but the landing was not without its challenges. The final approach to runway 09 from the west was executed at a heading of 94.0°, with the aircraft at 2 nautical miles and 929 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot's performance during the approach was evaluated, and it was noted that the threshold height was excessively over target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than desired when reaching the runway threshold.
However, the threshold speed was good, with the aircraft touching down at 61 knots, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was excessively long, using more than 75% of the available runway, which may indicate that the pilot could have made a more precise approach or applied more control during the landing. The touchdown speed of 50 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -219 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the pilot managed to control the descent effectively.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 15°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots at 44°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 2 knots each, which should not have significantly impacted the landing. The total landing distance of 808 meters was 103% of the runway length, indicating that the pilot had some room to maneuver during the landing.
Despite the challenges, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the pilot managed to maintain control during the rollout. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.4 meters from the centerline, which may indicate that the pilot could have made a more precise control input during the rollout. Overall, the landing was not perfect, but the pilot demonstrated some good skills and control during the approach and landing.
