Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,081 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,081 m of the 3,138 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 758 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Cologne Bonn Airport, taking approximately 6 minutes to cover a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 13L, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,415 meters, which was 37% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 154 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Cologne Bonn Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 20°C temperature and a wind speed of 2 knots at 163 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile south east of the airport and continued for 12 minutes, covering a distance of 64 nautical miles and increasing the altitude from 1,329 feet above sea level to 26,427 feet above sea level, a total increase of 25,098 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles south of Ober-Morlen, Germany, and lasted for 11 minutes, covering a distance of 79 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 2 miles south of Bretten, Germany, and continued for 18 minutes, covering a distance of 89 nautical miles and decreasing the altitude from 26,968 feet above sea level to 2,947 feet above sea level, a total decrease of 24,021 feet.
The final approach to runway 14 at Zürich Airport was made from the north west, with the aircraft heading 135.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,497 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 14, which had a length of 3,138 meters. The threshold height was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 137 knots.
The touchdown point was 349 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 130 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -164 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at Zürich Airport were 23°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 300 degrees, with a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,006 meters, which was 64% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 241 nautical miles, taking 49 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,146 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 14 at Zürich Airport (LSZH) with a score of 92.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north-west, heading 135.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,497 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a steady course, and the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 137 knots, which was within the target threshold speed.
However, the touchdown point was 349 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating that the pilot may have slightly over-extended the landing. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was also a bit faster than desired, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. On the positive side, the touchdown rate of -164 feet per minute (fpm) was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing smoothly.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a gentle wind of 6 knots from 300°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and the tailwind component was 6 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed. The total landing distance of 2,006 meters was 64% of the runway length, indicating that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop within a reasonable distance.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and was able to bring it to a stop in a straight line. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor issues with the touchdown speed and point that could be addressed in future training sessions.
