Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,145 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,145 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 377 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 20 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, a FFX P180, then departed from runway 13L at EDDK Cologne Bonn Airport. The takeoff distance was 569 meters, which accounted for 15% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 98 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 289 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a tailwind of 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead EDDK Cologne Bonn Airport. The climb took 27 minutes and covered a distance of 105 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,274 feet above sea level to 38,913 feet above sea level, an increase of 37,639 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 16 minutes and covered a distance of 90 nautical miles. This phase began 3 miles south east of Holzminden, Germany. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began 2 miles north of Chueden, Germany. The descent took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 104 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 38,892 feet above sea level to 1,291 feet above sea level, a decrease of 37,601 feet.
The final approach to runway 27 at EDBH Barth Airport was made from the east, with a heading of 270.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level and 4 nautical miles from the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 246 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The landing on runway 27 at EDBH Barth Airport was successful, with a touchdown distance of 379 meters, which was 70% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 110 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -254 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the runway rollout alignment was also very good. The total landing distance was 799 meters.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took only 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 307 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 79 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 396 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, identified as FFX P180 03 01, successfully landed at EDBH Barth Airport, with a final approach to runway 27 from the east. The aircraft was at an altitude of 1,268 feet above ground level (agl) and 4 nautical miles from the runway at a heading of 270.0°. The pilot demonstrated exceptional skill, achieving a score of 99.1%.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 122 knots, which was within the acceptable threshold speed. The touchdown distance of 379 meters was also satisfactory, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown speed of 110 knots was within the acceptable range, further emphasizing the pilot's expertise.
However, the touchdown rate of -254 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the pilot could have maintained a more gradual descent. Nevertheless, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots at 246°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance of 799 meters was 70% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilot was able to maintain a high level of control and precision throughout the landing. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain a stable and controlled rollout after touchdown.
Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot demonstrating exceptional skill and control throughout the approach and landing phases. The aircraft touched down smoothly and safely, with a minimal touchdown distance and a stable rollout.
