Improve the pattern base leg turn
Bank angle in the pattern is conventionally kept to 20 to 30 degrees, and the base-to-final turn is where that convention earns its keep. Stall speed rises with bank because the wing must produce more lift in a turn. Roughly 7 per cent higher at 30 degrees, about 19 per cent at 45, and around 40 per cent at 60. At 65 kt on base you don't have much margin to spend steepening a turn to salvage an overshoot.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
Side view — the last 4,984 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the full 4,984 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,090 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna Skyhawk took off from runway 32 at KEWB New Bedford Regional Airport, covering a takeoff distance of 920 feet, which is 18% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 73 knots. At the time of takeoff, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 70°F and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 271°. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 11 knots.
After takeoff, the pilot entered a left-hand pattern, navigating the aircraft in a distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 32 seconds. The subsequent left-hand pattern crosswind leg was completed in a shorter distance of less than 1 nautical mile in 24 seconds. The downwind leg of the pattern covered a distance of 2 nautical miles in 54 seconds.
As the aircraft approached the base leg turn, it covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The turn itself was made at an angle of 45 degrees to the runway, with a bank angle of 5.2 degrees. The final approach to runway 32 was made from the southeast, with the aircraft heading 305.0° at an altitude of 247 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway.
The landing on runway 32 was successful, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 39 knots. The touchdown distance was 1,071 feet, which is considered good. The touchdown rate was excellent at -55 feet per minute (fpm), and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. At the time of landing, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 69°F and a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 270°, resulting in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 10 knots.
The total flight distance was 4 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 3 minutes. The aircraft used 2 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna Skyhawk successfully landed at KEWB New Bedford Regional Airport, achieving a score of 93.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 305.0° at an altitude of 247 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 32, which has a length of 4,984 feet. The threshold height at 58 feet agl was slightly above the target, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal approach. However, the threshold speed of 64 knots was also slightly above the target, suggesting that the pilot may have been slightly too aggressive in their approach.
Despite these minor deviations, the touchdown distance of 1,071 feet was considered good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft throughout the landing. The touchdown speed of 39 knots was also within acceptable limits, and the touchdown rate of -55 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, demonstrating a smooth and controlled descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot successfully aligned the aircraft with the runway centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 69°F and a wind speed of 13 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 10 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly above-target threshold speed.
Overall, the Cessna Skyhawk's landing at KEWB New Bedford Regional Airport was successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and landing.
