See Arrival Landing
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 771 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 771 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 685 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The XCub aircraft departed from Reichelsheim Airfield, located at EDFB, with a takeoff roll on runway 18. The takeoff distance was 324 meters, which accounted for 26% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 89 knots. At the time of departure, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of -1°C and a wind speed of 15 knots from a direction of 184°. This resulted in a 2-knot crosswind and a 15-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed, it started its enroute climb overhead Florstadt, a town in Hessen, Germany. The climb began at an altitude of 1,000 feet above sea level and reached 1,546 feet in just 1 minute, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. This rapid ascent was achieved with a significant increase in altitude of 547 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile east of Reichelsheim Airfield. This cruise phase lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 1 mile east of Nidda, another town in Hessen, Germany. The descent from 1,686 feet to 1,059 feet in 2 minutes covered a distance of 2 nautical miles.
After the descent, the aircraft entered another level cruise phase, which started overhead Nidda. This cruise phase lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then landed on runway 03 at Nidda Airfield, located at EDUJ. The runway length was 771 meters, and the threshold height was significantly above the target. The threshold speed was also excessively high at 77 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 303 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 57 knots. However, the touchdown rate was perfect at 87 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. At the time of landing, the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of -2°C and a wind speed of 14 knots from a direction of 186°. This resulted in a 7-knot crosswind and a 12-knot tailwind.
The total flight distance was 12 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 8 minutes. The aircraft used 4 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The XCub aircraft successfully landed on runway 03 at EDUJ Nidda Airfield, achieving a score of 63.1%. While the landing had some notable aspects, it also had areas for improvement. The threshold height at 87 ft above ground level (agl) was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft touched down further down the runway than desired.
The threshold speed of 77 kt was excessively high, suggesting that the pilot may have been able to slow down more quickly before touchdown. This could have resulted in a shorter landing distance and a more controlled touchdown. However, the touchdown distance of 303 m was still considered good, indicating that the pilot was able to manage the aircraft's speed effectively.
The touchdown speed of 57 kt was a little fast, which may have contributed to the slightly high threshold speed. A faster touchdown speed can result in a higher rate of descent, which can be challenging to control. Fortunately, the touchdown rate of 87 fpm was perfect, indicating that the pilot was able to manage the aircraft's descent effectively.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain a straight course during the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of -2 °C and winds of 14 kt at 186°, presented some challenges. The crosswind of 7 kt and tailwind of 12 kt may have affected the aircraft's stability and control during the landing.
Overall, while the landing had some areas for improvement, the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft during the landing. With some adjustments to the approach and touchdown speed, the pilot may be able to achieve a higher score and a more controlled landing.
