Arrival
Add power on short final to hold speed at 61 kt, correcting the slow threshold speed before it carries through to the flare.
What happened: Threshold speed was slow at 51 kt against 61 kt, and touchdown followed short of the aim point at 94 m. Crossing the threshold slow like this usually carries the touchdown short.
Watch for: Airspeed indicator against 61 kt on short final.
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: seven checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply. These checks are the approach's score.
Side view — the last 1,368 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,368 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 94 m short of the threshold. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 152 departed from runway 24 at EGNC Carlisle Lake District Airport, using a take-off distance of 545 m which represented 35 % of the runway. Liftoff was achieved at 66 kt. Ambient conditions were 15 °C with a wind of 1 kt from 270°, giving a 1 kt headwind and a 1 kt cross-wind component.
During the climb the aircraft entered a left-hand pattern from runway 24, covering 3 nm in 19 seconds. The subsequent left-hand cross-wind leg was less than 1 nm and required 23 seconds to complete.
A go-around was executed on runway 06 at EGNC, with the aircraft climbing to 693 ft agl before re-establishing a missed-approach profile.
The descent phase began at 640 ft agl and continued to 33 ft agl, a vertical change completed in 113 seconds.
On the final approach to runway 06 the aircraft satisfied the stabilisation gates, maintaining the prescribed glide path and speed parameters.
Landing was made on runway 06, whose length is 1,368 m. The threshold speed was recorded slightly below target at 51 kt. Touchdown occurred 367 m down the runway at 37 kt with a descent rate of minus 76 fpm, and runway-touchdown alignment was judged very good. Weather remained 15 °C with a 1 kt wind from 270°, now a 1 kt tail-wind and 1 kt cross-wind component.
Rollout covered a total landing distance of 689 m, equal to 50 % of the runway, and the aircraft’s centre-line alignment was offset by 10.2 m.
In summary, the flight covered a total distance of 10 nm, took 6 (as reported), and used 0 kg of fuel.
The Cessna 152 completed the final approach to runway 06 at EGNC Carlisle Lake District Airport with a descent from 640 ft AGL to 33 ft AGL in 113 seconds and was scored on the stabilisation gates, contributing to an overall landing score of 82.6 %.
At threshold the aircraft displayed a good threshold height, while the threshold speed was a little below target at 51 kt.
Touchdown occurred 367 m down the runway at a speed of 37 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 76 fpm and runway-touchdown alignment described as very good.
The total landing distance measured 689 m, representing 50 % of the 1,368 m runway, and the rollout alignment was slightly off centreline by 10.2 m.
To raise the score further, bring the threshold speed up to the target value and refine rollout technique to keep the aircraft centred within a tighter tolerance.
