Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,441 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 466 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 23 at Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, LIEO. The Airbus A320 took off with a takeoff distance of 882 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 150 knots, and the aircraft climbed steadily into the sky.
As the aircraft climbed, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 22 degrees Celsius and winds blowing at 12 knots from a direction of 110 degrees. The crosswind component was 10 knots, while the tailwind component was 7 knots. The enroute climb started overhead the airport, where the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,039 feet above sea level to 1,639 feet above sea level, an increase of 600 feet in just 2 minutes. During this climb, the aircraft covered a distance of 3 nautical miles.
As the aircraft approached the final approach to runway 05 at LIEO, it was heading in a southerly direction at an altitude of 1,597 feet above ground level. The aircraft was 4 nautical miles away from the runway and was descending steadily.
The landing on runway 05 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 465 meters, which was considered good. The touchdown speed was 112 knots, also within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown rate was slightly higher than desired at -276 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 6.4 meters.
The local weather conditions during the landing were similar to those encountered during the climb, with a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius and winds blowing at 11 knots from a direction of 110 degrees. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots. The total landing distance was 1,341 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centerline by 8.8 meters.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area from the runway in less than 1 minute, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 8 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 5 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 216 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at LIEO Olbia Costa Smeralda Airport, achieving a score of 95.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southwest, heading 68.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,597 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 05, which has a length of 2,441 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 121 knots. The touchdown distance was also good, measuring 465 meters. The touchdown speed of 112 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the touchdown rate of -276 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been brought down more gently.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 6.4 meters, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach or a minor issue with the aircraft's navigation system. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a moderate wind of 11 knots at 110°. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots.
The total landing distance of 1,341 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is a reasonable figure considering the aircraft's size and weight. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 8.8 meters, which may have been due to a minor issue with the aircraft's braking system or a slight deviation in the rollout.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was brought to a safe stop within a reasonable distance. However, there were some minor issues with the touchdown rate and the runway rollout alignment, which may require further attention and improvement.
