MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,990 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 680 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Salt Lake City International Airport (KSLC). This process took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 34L, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 162 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 12°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots coming from a direction of 325°.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started approximately 1 mile northwest of KSLC. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 4,999 feet above sea level to 38,161 feet, an increase of 33,162 feet, in just 16 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 95 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, which began 6 miles north of West Wendover, Nevada, and lasted for 356 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 2,374 nautical miles.
The enroute cruise phase was followed by a descent, which started 118 miles northeast of Kahuku, Hawaii. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 38,111 feet to 5,007 feet, a decrease of 33,104 feet, in just 14 minutes. This descent phase covered a distance of 86 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which began 36 miles north of Kahuku and lasted for 5 minutes. This phase covered a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another descent, which started 20 miles north of Kawela Bay, Hawaii. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 5,064 feet to 3,046 feet, a decrease of 2,017 feet, in just 3 minutes. This descent phase covered a distance of 16 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which began 24 miles northwest of Mokuleia, Hawaii, and lasted for 7 minutes. This phase covered a distance of 32 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began another descent, which started 22 miles east of Lihue Airport, Hawaii. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 2,903 feet to 1,926 feet, a decrease of 977 feet, in just 2 minutes. This descent phase covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which began 16 miles southeast of Lihue Airport and lasted for 6 minutes. This phase covered a distance of 15 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35 at Lihue Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 359.0° at an altitude of 1,273 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 1,990 meters, and the threshold height at 66 feet above ground level was above the target. The threshold speed was also well above the target at 156 knots.
The touchdown point was 270 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 150 knots, which was fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -196 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.6 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 23°C, with a wind speed of 2 knots coming from a direction of 329°.
The total landing distance was 1,385 meters, which was 70% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 3 minutes and
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at PHLI Lihue Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the south, heading 359.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,273 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 35, which has a length of 1,990 meters.
Upon landing, the threshold height was found to be above the target, indicating that the aircraft descended slightly more than necessary before touching down. Additionally, the threshold speed was significantly higher than the target, at 156 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly fast touchdown speed of 150 knots. However, the touchdown rate was good, at -196 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent.
The touchdown point was located 270 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may have been due to the slightly misaligned runway touchdown position, being 5.6 meters off-centerline. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a gentle headwind of 2 knots at 329°. The crosswind component was minimal, at 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,385 meters, which is 70% of the runway length. This is a relatively long landing distance, but the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well under control during the rollout phase. Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the aircraft was able to safely touch down and come to a stop on the runway.
