MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Fly a steeper descent on final so you cross the threshold at 50 ft agl instead of 70 ft agl.
What happened: The aircraft crossed the threshold at 70 ft agl against a 50 ft agl target, well above the normal profile. The touchdown point was also long at 935 m against a 457 m target, a pattern often seen after high threshold crossings.
Watch for: Radio altimeter against the 50 ft threshold crossing target on short final.
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,046 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,046 m of the 4,416 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 935 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777-300 taxied from the parking area to runway 27R at EGLL, London Heathrow, in 7 minutes while covering 2 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 27R, the aircraft used 2,134 m of runway, representing 55 % of the available length, and lifted off at 182 kt; local weather reported a temperature of 36 °C, wind 5 kt from 210°, with a 4 kt cross-wind component and a 3 kt head-wind component.
The initial climb began over Colnbrook, ascending from 1,048 ft asl to 6,012 ft asl-a gain of 4,964 ft-in 2 minutes while traversing 11 nm.
A short level segment followed over Chobham, lasting 2 minutes and covering 7 nm at cruise altitude.
The next climb segment started over Guildford, climbing from 6,018 ft asl to 32,932 ft asl, an increase of 26,914 ft achieved in 16 minutes over a distance of 115 nm.
Subsequent cruise commenced over La Riviere-Saint-Sauveur, lasting 248 minutes and covering 2,084 nm.
A further climb began 87 mi south of Bilma, raising the aircraft from 32,999 ft asl to 34,984 ft asl, a gain of 1,984 ft in 3 minutes while covering 29 nm.
The following cruise segment started 88 mi north-east of DRNG Nguigmi Airport, lasting 246 minutes and encompassing 2,033 nm.
Another climb was initiated 30 mi north-west of FLSN Senanga Airport, increasing altitude from 35,000 ft asl to 36,992 ft asl, a rise of 1,992 ft in 3 minutes across 29 nm.
A further cruise phase over 10 mi south-west of Senanga lasted 75 minutes and covered 593 nm.
Descent began 10 mi south-west of FAXX Mogwase Airport, descending from 36,979 ft asl to 6,842 ft asl-a loss of 30,137 ft-in 24 minutes while traveling 114 nm.
The final approach to runway 03L at FAOR, O.R. Tambo International Airport, was executed from the south on a heading of 16.0°, intercepting the glide path at 4 nm and 1,329 ft agl.
Landing on runway 03L, which is 4,418 m long, recorded a threshold height of 68 ft agl and a threshold speed of 144 kt; touchdown occurred 521 m beyond the touchdown zone at 138 kt with a firm touchdown rate of minus 359 fpm, and the touchdown point was offset 5.9 m from the centreline. Local weather at the time was 3 °C, wind 2 kt from 40°, with a 1 kt cross-wind and 1 kt head-wind component. Total landing distance measured 1,967 m, representing 45 % of the runway.
Runway rollout alignment was noted as slightly off centreline by 9.4 m.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 1 minute, covering less than 1 nm.
In total, the flight covered 5,022 nm, took 630 minutes, and consumed 87,339 kg of fuel.
The Boeing 777-300 on a final approach to runway 03L at FAOR O.R. Tambo International Airport was 4 nm out, heading 16.0 deg and 1,329 ft agl. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all within limits. Ambient temperature was 3 C, wind 2 kt from 40 deg with a 1 kt crosswind component and a 1 kt headwind component.
At threshold the height of 68 ft agl was above the target, while the threshold speed of 144 kt was recorded as good. The flare proceeded from this condition without further comment.
Touchdown occurred 521 m beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 138 kt judged good. The aircraft landed with a firm rate of minus 359 fpm and the touchdown point was slightly off centreline by 5.9 m. Total landing distance was 1,967 m, representing 45 % of the 4,418 m runway.
During rollout the aircraft remained slightly misaligned, drifting 9.4 m from the centreline before exiting the runway.
Refine the touchdown point to reduce the 521 m overshoot and focus on tighter centreline alignment during rollout; these adjustments will help convert the solid 83.7 % score into an even higher performance.
