Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 6,800 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 6,800 ft of the 8,988 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,734 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LaGuardia Airport, taking approximately 8 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 13, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 161 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 89 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 180 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its initial cruising altitude, it passed over the town of Flushing, New York, and began its ascent from an altitude of 1,004 feet above sea level to 29,081 feet above sea level, an increase of 28,077 feet in 22 minutes. The aircraft then leveled off and cruised for a short period of time, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles in 2 minutes. The aircraft then began another climb, this time from 29,479 feet to 32,090 feet, an increase of 2,611 feet in 4 minutes.
The aircraft then entered a long period of level cruise, lasting 131 minutes and covering a distance of 938 nautical miles. During this time, the aircraft flew over the states of Pennsylvania and Maryland. The aircraft then began its descent, starting 7 miles north of DeRidder, Louisiana, and descending from 31,766 feet to 1,357 feet in 23 minutes. The aircraft then lined up for its final approach to runway 26R at George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport, flying from the east and heading 270 degrees.
The landing took place on runway 26R, which was 8,988 feet long. The threshold height was slightly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 148 knots. The touchdown point was 1,385 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was good at 135 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -256 feet per minute, but the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind speed of 0 knots from a direction of 0 degrees.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,232 nautical miles, and the flight took a total of 200 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 21,390 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at KIAH George Bush Intercontinental Houston Airport on runway 26R, achieving a high score of 94.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,252 feet above ground level (agl).
The final approach was executed smoothly, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 135 knots, which was within the target range. The touchdown point was located 1,385 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, but this was still considered acceptable given the overall performance of the landing.
The threshold height at 56 feet agl was slightly above the target, but this did not significantly impact the landing. The threshold speed of 148 knots was also within the target range, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 86°F and no wind. This made the landing even smoother, as the aircraft did not have to contend with any crosswinds or headwinds.
The total landing distance of 6,551 feet was 73% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was considered good, with the aircraft achieving a high score and demonstrating a high level of proficiency in terms of speed, distance, and alignment.
