Fixing the bounce
Fast at the threshold, normal flare, and the runway seems to refuse the aircraft. The instinctive fix - pushing it on - causes the next one. A fast aircraft forced onto the runway touches nosewheel-first or nearly so. The tell is a touchdown that feels soft followed by a bounce that steepens. Pilots fix the bounce recovery; the cause was the 10 knots at the threshold.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 853 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 853 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 472 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The aircraft taxied to runway 24 at EDXH Helgoland-Düne Airport and commenced the departure roll. The takeoff run measured 143 m, representing 53 % of the available runway, and the aircraft became airborne at a liftoff speed of 52 kt. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 15 °C with a wind of 11 kt from 220°, including a 3 kt cross-wind component and a 10 kt head-wind component.
Climb began directly overhead Helgoland, with the flight ascending from 362 ft asl to 3 440 ft asl. This altitude gain of 3 078 ft was achieved in 4 minutes while covering a ground distance of 6 nm.
The first cruise segment started 4 miles south of Helgoland and persisted for 7 minutes, during which the aircraft travelled 13 nm.
Descent was initiated 5 miles north of Wangerooge, reducing altitude from 3 434 ft asl to 708 ft asl. The loss of 2 726 ft occurred over 3 minutes and a distance of 5 nm.
A second cruise phase commenced 1 mile north-east of EDWG Wangerooge Airport, lasting 3 minutes and encompassing 5 nm of flight.
Landing was executed on runway 10 at EDWG Wangerooge Airport, whose length is 853 m. The threshold height was satisfactory and the threshold speed was recorded at 64 kt, well above the target. Touchdown occurred beyond the midpoint of the runway, using more than 50 % of the available length; the touchdown speed was 47 kt and the vertical speed was minus 84 fpm. The touchdown point was offset by 7.1 m from the centreline. Local weather at the time was 17 °C with a wind of 9 kt from 194°, a 9 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt tail-wind component. The total landing distance measured 570 m, equivalent to 67 % of the runway, and the subsequent rollout alignment was very good.
During rollout the aircraft remained aligned with the runway centreline, confirming the good alignment noted at touchdown.
In total the flight covered 29 nm, required 24 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 4 kg of fuel.
The aircraft, a TL3000 Sirius, approached runway 10 at EDWG Wangerooge Airport with a good threshold height under temperature 17 °C, wind 9 kt from 194°, a 9 kt cross-wind component and a 2 kt tail-wind component. Threshold speed was well above target at 64 kt, and the flare was executed with the aircraft crossing the threshold at that speed.
Touchdown occurred well beyond the intended aim point, using more than 50 % of the available 853 m runway; the total landing distance measured 570 m, representing 67 % of the runway. Touchdown speed was 47 kt, which was good, and the vertical rate was excellent at minus 84 fpm. The touchdown point was slightly misaligned, being 7.1 m off the centreline.
Runway rollout alignment was very good, with the aircraft remaining on the centreline for the remainder of the roll.
To improve future performance, reduce the threshold speed to meet the target value and aim to achieve touchdown within the first 300 m (approximately 1 000 ft) of the runway, which will keep the landing distance well below the current 67 % usage. Correct the minor lateral offset by ensuring the aircraft is aligned with the centreline before flare.
