Improve the pattern downwind leg
The 45-degrees-behind-the-wing cue assumes you can turn your head and use peripheral vision. Downwind spacing cues like "put the wingtip halfway up the strut" assume a fixed, known eyepoint. Neither survives a monitor unmodified. If you fly on a fixed monitor, stop pretending and fly a numbers-based circuit.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate for a circuit: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate is an instrument-approach check and does not apply.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,490 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 471 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Groningen Airport Eelde, the aircraft began its takeoff roll on runway 23, accelerating to a liftoff speed of 104 kt in 1,262 meters, which represented 51% of the available runway length. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 16 °C and a negligible headwind of 1 kt from a direction of 270 °.
As the aircraft entered the left-hand traffic pattern, it demonstrated a high degree of agility, completing the pattern entry in less than 1 nm in 20 seconds. The subsequent crosswind turn was executed smoothly, with a distance of less than 1 nm covered in 17 seconds. The pilot then initiated a downwind turn, maintaining a 45-degree angle to the runway and a distance of 1 nm. The downwind leg itself was 2 nm long, taking 50 seconds to complete. Following the base leg turn, the aircraft began its final approach to runway 23, aligning itself with the runway at a heading of 231.0 ° and an altitude of 287 ft above ground level.
The landing was executed flawlessly, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 82 kt and a distance of 474 meters, representing 37% of the available runway length. The touchdown rate was a perfect -24 fpm, and the runway touchdown alignment was spot on. Following touchdown, the aircraft rolled out to a stop, maintaining perfect alignment with the runway. The total landing distance was 925 meters, and the total flight distance was 6 nm, consuming 1 kg of fuel in the process.
The final approach to runway 23 at EHGG Groningen Airport Eelde was executed from the north east, with a heading of 231.0° at 0 nm and 287 ft above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 95 kt, well within the acceptable range. As the aircraft descended onto the runway, it touched down at a speed of 82 kt, which was also within the desired parameters. The touchdown distance of 474 m was good, and the touchdown rate of -24 fpm was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft maintained perfect runway touchdown alignment, and the rollout was equally impressive, with the aircraft staying perfectly aligned with the centreline. The total landing distance of 925 m, which accounted for 37% of the runway length, was well within the acceptable range. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 15°C and a wind speed of 1 kt at 270°, contributed to a stable and predictable approach and landing.
The overall performance of the landing was outstanding, with a score of 99.6%. The combination of a good approach, a smooth touchdown, and a controlled rollout resulted in a perfect landing, with all key performance figures well within the desired parameters. The pilot's skill and experience were evident in the execution of the landing, and the aircraft's performance was exemplary.
