Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,884 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,884 m of the 2,984 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 788 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Boeing 777-300 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at RJTT Tokyo Haneda International Airport, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 16L, with a takeoff distance of 22 meters, which was 1% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 175 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 23°C temperature and a wind speed of 16 knots at 190°. The crosswind was 10 knots, while the headwind was 12 knots. After departing from Tokyo, the enroute climb started 1 mile southeast of the airport, with the aircraft climbing from an altitude of 1,103 feet above sea level to 33,198 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,095 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 28 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 3 miles south of Itsukaichi, Tokyo Prefecture, Japan, and lasted for 31 minutes, covering a distance of 211 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 3 miles northwest of Nishiwaki, Hyogo, Japan, descending from 33,913 feet above sea level to 2,100 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,812 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 102 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 28 at RJOA Hiroshima Airport was made from the east, heading 270.0°, at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,014 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 28, which had a length of 2,984 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 144 knots.
The touchdown point was 337 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 124 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was also good at -180 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.8 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as during takeoff, with a temperature of 23°C and a wind speed of 16 knots at 190°.
The crosswind was 15 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots. The total landing distance was 1,768 meters, which was 59% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.2 meters from the centerline. After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, a process that took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 349 nautical miles, which was covered in 72 minutes, and the aircraft used 9,005 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 777-300 aircraft successfully landed at RJOA Hiroshima Airport, achieving an overall score of 85.3%. The final approach to runway 28 was initiated from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,014 feet above ground level (agl).
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway, with a touchdown speed of 124 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was also satisfactory at -180 feet per minute (fpm). However, the threshold height at 71 feet agl was above the target, indicating a slight deviation from the ideal landing configuration.
The landing distance of 1,768 meters was 59% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the runway length of 2,984 meters. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 9.8 meters, which may have contributed to the slightly misaligned runway rollout alignment by 9.2 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a wind speed of 16 knots at 190°. The crosswind component was 15 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions did not appear to significantly impact the landing performance of the aircraft.
Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with some minor deviations from the ideal landing configuration. However, the aircraft's performance and handling characteristics were well within acceptable limits, and the crew's skills and experience likely played a significant role in achieving a safe and successful landing.
