MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Begin the flare with progressive back pressure and keep it coming until the sink is arrested, rather than flying it on flat.
What happened: The nose was barely raised in the flare and little of the sink was taken out, flying the aircraft onto the runway. This pattern usually carries through to a firm touchdown with a noticeable sink rate.
Watch for: Vertical speed indicator: a smoothly reducing sink through the normal flare band, not a steady rate into the runway.
There are several things that can go wrong during the flare, carrying too much speed over the threshold, starting the flare at the wrong height and inconsistent flight control inputs, all contribute to a poor flare resulting in a hard touchdown or a float down the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
At the 1,000 ft gate: centreline 1.5° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,519 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,154 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A220-300 taxied from its parking position to runway 09 at KBOS Logan International Airport in 6 minutes, covering approximately 1 nm on the ground.
During the departure roll, the aircraft accelerated to a liftoff speed of 147 kt and became airborne after a take-off run of 3,997 ft, representing 57 % of the available runway. Ambient conditions were 69 °F with a wind of 8 kt from 087°, including a 2 kt cross-wind component and an 8 kt head-wind.
Climb commenced over Winthrop, Massachusetts, with the airplane ascending from 929 ft asl to 37,615 ft asl, a gain of 36,686 ft achieved in 27 minutes while covering 163 nm.
The first cruise segment began 13 mi south of Mastic Beach, New York, and lasted 7 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 50 nm at level altitude.
Descent phase one started 25 mi east of Mantoloking, New Jersey, with a reduction from 37,713 ft asl to 3,962 ft asl, a loss of 33,751 ft over 19 minutes and a distance of 112 nm.
A brief cruise followed, initiated over Vincentown, New Jersey, lasting 3 minutes and covering 12 nm at constant altitude.
The second descent began over Kingston Estates, New Jersey, where the aircraft dropped from 3,597 ft asl to 1,091 ft asl, a decrease of 2,506 ft in 3 minutes while traveling 8 nm.
For the final approach to runway 27R at KPHL Philadelphia International Airport, the flight approached from the east on a heading of 254.0°, intercepting the glide path at 4 nm and 1,068 ft agl.
Landing on runway 27R was executed with a threshold speed of 131 kt; touchdown occurred at 126 kt, 1,156 ft down the runway, and the aircraft settled at a hard rate of minus 427 fpm. The total landing distance measured 3,851 ft, equivalent to 40 % of the 9,519-ft runway, and alignment was reported as very good. Local weather at the time was 81 °F with a wind of 8 kt from 310°, including a 7 kt cross-wind and a 5 kt head-wind.
Rollout proceeded with very good runway alignment, and the aircraft decelerated within the measured landing distance before exiting the runway.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to its parking stand in another 6 minutes, covering less than 1 nm on the taxiway.
In total, the flight covered 351 nm, took 74, and consumed 4,768 lb of fuel.
The Airbus A220-300 entered the final approach to runway 27R at KPHL from the east on a heading of 254.0° while 4 nm out and 1,068 ft above ground level. The approach was assessed as stabilised at the 1,000 ft gate, with gear, flaps, sink rate, glideslope and centreline all reported within limits.
At threshold the aircraft maintained a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 131 kt, which was judged good for the conditions.
Touchdown occurred 1,156 ft down the runway at a speed of 126 kt, with a hard vertical rate of -427 fpm. Runway touchdown alignment was described as very good.
The total landing distance measured 3,851 ft, representing 40 % of the 9,519 ft runway, and rollout alignment was very good. Local weather was 81 °F with wind 8 kt from 310°, giving a 7 kt crosswind component and a 5 kt headwind.
To refine the already strong performance, focus on flare timing to moderate the touchdown rate and avoid hard landings while preserving the excellent alignment already achieved.
