Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 10,619 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,823 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-MAX8, then departed from runway 01L at Kansas City International Airport (KMCI). The takeoff distance was 4,348 feet, which was 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 164 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 24°F and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 109°. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile north of KMCI, and climbed from an altitude of 2,044 feet above sea level to 38,237 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,193 feet, in 20 minutes and covering a distance of 122 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 9 miles east of Greentop, Missouri, and lasted for 14 minutes, covering a distance of 105 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles west of Oak Run, Illinois, and descended from 37,856 feet above sea level to 11,233 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,623 feet, in 11 minutes and covering a distance of 80 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 2 miles south of 93LL Hemmingsen Airport, Sandwich, Illinois, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 46 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting overhead the Chicago Loop, and descended from 11,206 feet above sea level to 1,957 feet above sea level, a decrease of 9,249 feet, in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27C at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (KORD) was made from the east, heading 270.0°, at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,281 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 27C, which had a length of 10,619 feet. The threshold height was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 146 knots.
The touchdown point was 450 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 141 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was good at -195 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16°F and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 330°, resulting in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 4,625 feet, which was 44% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 371 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 81 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 6,097 pounds.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 successfully landed at Chicago O'Hare International Airport (KORD) on runway 27C, demonstrating a high level of proficiency in its approach and landing procedures. The aircraft's final approach was initiated from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,281 feet above ground level (agl). This positioning allowed the pilots to make a precise approach to the runway, taking into account the local weather conditions.
The landing was conducted in a temperature of 16°F, with a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 330°. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 4 knots, which the pilots effectively managed to maintain a stable approach. The aircraft's speed and altitude were closely monitored, with the threshold height being slightly above the target at 56 feet agl and the threshold speed being slightly above target at 146 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was a little fast at 141 knots, but the touchdown rate was good at -195 feet per minute (fpm). This indicates that the pilots were able to smoothly transition the aircraft from the air to the ground, minimizing the impact on the landing gear and the runway. The touchdown point was 450 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively safe distance considering the aircraft's speed and the runway's length.
The runway length at KORD is 10,619 feet, providing a sufficient margin for the aircraft to come to a stop. The total landing distance was 4,625 feet, which is 44% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilots were able to maintain a high level of control and precision throughout the approach and landing.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilots were able to smoothly transition the aircraft from the landing phase to the rollout phase, maintaining a stable and controlled speed. Overall, the landing was a success, demonstrating the Boeing 737-MAX8's capabilities and the pilots' expertise in conducting a safe and efficient approach and landing.
