Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,289 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 387 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 07 at NZPM Palmerston North Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,038 meters, which accounted for 62% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 147 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 15 °C, a wind speed of 3 knots at 126 degrees, resulting in a 2-knot crosswind and a 3-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb 1 mile east of NZPM Palmerston North Airport. The climb took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 134 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,236 feet above sea level to 31,254 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,018 feet. The enroute descent started 23 miles east of Kaikoura, where the aircraft began its descent from 31,249 feet above sea level to 1,379 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,870 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 97 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 20 at NZCH Christchurch International Airport was made from the north-east, with a heading of 220.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,262 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing on runway 20 was successful, with a threshold speed that was good at 137 knots and a touchdown distance of 386 meters, which was 31% of the runway length. However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -244 feet per minute was fair. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.5 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 6 °C, a wind speed of 10 knots at 249 degrees, resulting in a 5-knot crosswind and an 8-knot headwind. The total landing distance was 1,007 meters, and the runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 239 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 55 minutes, during which the aircraft used 2,452 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Christchurch International Airport, achieving a high score of 97.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 220.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,262 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot's final approach to runway 20 was executed smoothly, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 137 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a touchdown distance of 386 meters, which is within the acceptable range. However, the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly higher than the ideal speed, indicating that the pilot may have needed to apply more braking force upon touchdown. The touchdown rate of -244 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft's descent was not excessively steep.
One notable aspect of the landing was the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was 6.5 meters off the centerline. This may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error, but it did not appear to have a significant impact on the overall performance of the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 6°C and a wind speed of 10 knots from 249°. The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. These conditions may have presented some challenges for the pilot, but they did not seem to have a major impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,007 meters was 31% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and efficiently, with a very good runway rollout alignment. Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot demonstrating good control and precision throughout the approach and touchdown phases.
