Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,124 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,124 ft of the 10,158 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,921 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departing from Miami International Airport, the Boeing 737-MAX8 began its journey on runway 08R, taking off with a distance of 5,635 feet, utilizing 54% of the available runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 159 knots, with a local temperature of 77°F and a gentle headwind of 3 knots. As the aircraft departed the airport, it entered a southwest trajectory, initiating its enroute climb approximately one mile south of Brownsville, Florida.
The climb phase was a notable aspect of the flight, with the aircraft ascending from 961 feet above sea level to 37,014 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 141 nautical miles. This impressive climb rate allowed the aircraft to reach its cruising altitude efficiently. Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 50 minutes and covered 422 nautical miles. This phase was followed by a descent, initiated 32 miles south of the Harold Charles International Airport on Big Ambergris Cay, Turks and Caicos Islands. The descent phase was characterized by a significant decrease in altitude, from 37,001 feet to 4,493 feet, in 33 minutes, covering 198 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 09 at Punta Cana International Airport was executed from the west, with the aircraft maintaining a heading of 85.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,175 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down 582 feet beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 136 knots. The touchdown rate was an impressive -50 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. Following the landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, completing the flight with a total distance of 798 nautical miles, utilizing 8,921 pounds of fuel and taking 121 minutes to complete.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 touched down on runway 09 at MDPC Punta Cana International Airport with a score of 98.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 85.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,175 feet above ground level. The final approach was characterized by good quality, with a threshold height that was well-maintained. The threshold speed was also within acceptable limits at 146 knots.
As the aircraft made contact with the runway, it touched down 582 feet beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 136 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was particularly impressive, with an excellent rate of -50 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating a high degree of control and precision during the landing. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 75°F and a gentle wind of 2 knots at 220°, contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance of 4,885 feet was 48% of the runway length, which is within acceptable limits. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating excellent control and coordination during the post-landing phase. Overall, the landing was characterized by good speed control, precise alignment, and a smooth touchdown, resulting in a high score of 98.5%.
