Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,972 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,972 m of the 2,341 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,138 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 34 at FMCZ Dzaoudzi Pamandzi International Airport. The Airbus A32NX took off with a takeoff distance of 990 meters, which was 59% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 147 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 14 knots at 340 degrees, resulting in a 2-knot crosswind and a 14-knot headwind.
As the aircraft climbed to cruising altitude, it passed overhead Pamandzi, Mayotte, and began its ascent from 1,071 feet above sea level to 39,961 feet above sea level, an increase of 38,889 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 139 nautical miles. The enroute climb was followed by a level cruise, which started 85 miles southwest of FSSA Astove Island Airport, Astove Island, and lasted 19 minutes, covering 143 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent from 41,307 feet above sea level to 38,873 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,434 feet in 2 minutes, covering 12 nautical miles. Following this, the aircraft entered another level cruise, which started 84 miles east of FSSA Astove Island Airport and lasted 2 minutes, covering 14 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb from 39,192 feet above sea level to 40,356 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,164 feet in 2 minutes, covering 15 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, which started at a latitude of -9.2427239 and a longitude of 49.5099939 and lasted 51 minutes, covering 338 nautical miles. The enroute cruise was followed by a descent from 40,132 feet above sea level to 1,222 feet above sea level, a decrease of 38,911 feet in 24 minutes, covering 113 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 31 at FSIA Seychelles International Airport was made from the southeast, heading 305.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,198 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 31 was characterized by a touchdown point that was very long, using more than 50% of the available runway. The touchdown speed was excessively fast at 219 knots, and the touchdown rate was very heavy at -1,164 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.6 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius, a wind speed of 10 knots at 310 degrees, resulting in a 1-knot crosswind and a 10-knot headwind. The total landing distance was 2,240 meters, which was 96% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.4 meters from the centerline.
The total flight distance was 781 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 123 minutes. The aircraft used 4,406 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A32NX aircraft has successfully landed at FSIA Seychelles International Airport, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach to runway 31 from the south east, heading 305.0° at 4 nm and 1,198 ft agl, was executed, but the aircraft's performance during the landing was subpar.
One of the primary concerns was the excessive height at the threshold, which was 125 ft agl, significantly above the target. This indicates that the aircraft was not properly configured for landing, which could have contributed to the subsequent issues. Additionally, the threshold speed was excessively high at 207 kn, suggesting that the aircraft was not slowed down sufficiently before touching down.
The touchdown point was also a concern, as it was located more than 50% of the available runway, indicating that the aircraft had not been properly aligned with the runway centerline. Furthermore, the touchdown speed of 219 kn was excessively fast, and the touchdown rate of -1,164 fpm was very heavy, indicating a hard landing. The runway touchdown position was also slightly misaligned by 5.6 m from the centerline, which could have contributed to the issues with the rollout alignment.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 25 °C and a headwind of 10 kn at 310°. However, the crosswind was minimal at 1 kn, which should not have been a significant factor in the landing. The total landing distance of 2,240 m was 96% of the available runway, indicating that the aircraft had not been properly slowed down before touching down.
During the rollout, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.4 m from the centerline, which could have been a result of the issues with the touchdown point and the runway touchdown position. Overall, the landing was not executed as smoothly as it could have been, and there are several areas that need improvement to ensure a safe and efficient landing.
