Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,587 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,587 m of the 3,364 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 438 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, taking 7 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 13, with a takeoff distance of 1,545 meters, which was 48% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 154 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 13°C, with a wind speed of 17 knots coming from a direction of 100°. This resulted in a crosswind of 9 knots and a headwind of 14 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile southeast of the airport, rising from an altitude of 1,068 feet above sea level to 31,231 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,163 feet, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 59 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 3 miles north of Frailes, Andalusia, Spain. This phase of the flight lasted 11 minutes and covered a distance of 72 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 2 miles southwest of La Calderera Airfield, Valdepeñas, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, descending from 31,343 feet above sea level to 10,743 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,600 feet, in 15 minutes and covering a distance of 82 nautical miles.
The aircraft entered another level cruise phase, this time overhead Gerindote, Castilla-La Mancha, Spain, lasting 14 minutes and covering a distance of 61 nautical miles. The final descent phase began 2 miles north of Rascafria, Comunidad de Madrid, Spain, with the aircraft descending from 10,882 feet above sea level to 3,279 feet above sea level, a decrease of 7,603 feet, in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 25 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 18R at Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport was made from the north, with the aircraft heading 180.0° at an altitude of 1,316 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 18R, which had a length of 3,364 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 122 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 439 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 118 knots, resulting in a heavy touchdown rate of -666 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 16°C, with a wind speed of 4 knots coming from a direction of 40°. This resulted in a crosswind of 2 knots and a tailwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,506 meters, which was 45% of the runway length. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 12 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 308 nautical miles, taking 79 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,748 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at LEMD Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport, with a final approach score of 85.8%. The aircraft was approaching runway 18R from the north, heading 180.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,316 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on a runway with a length of 3,364 meters.
The threshold height at 76 feet agl was well above the target, indicating a good approach path. The threshold speed was also satisfactory at 122 knots, which is a good indication of the pilot's control over the aircraft's descent. The touchdown distance of 439 meters was within the acceptable range, demonstrating the pilot's ability to control the aircraft's speed and altitude during the final approach.
However, there were a few areas for improvement. The touchdown speed of 118 knots was slightly faster than the target, which may have resulted in a heavier touchdown rate. The touchdown rate of -666 feet per minute (fpm) was considered heavy, indicating that the aircraft may have touched down with a higher than desired rate of descent. Additionally, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained a stable and aligned approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 4 knots at 40°. The crosswind component was minimal at 2 knots, and the tailwind component was 3 knots, which may have contributed to the slightly faster touchdown speed.
The total landing distance of 1,506 meters was 45% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.2 meters from the centerline, indicating that the pilot may have experienced some difficulty in maintaining a stable and aligned rollout after touchdown. Overall, the landing was considered satisfactory, with some areas for improvement that can be addressed in future training sessions.
